It seems SWIM cant find anywhere at any store a suitable naphtha. SWIM recently bought "escort cap fuel" that says it contains naphtha petroleum and tried an evaporation test on it only to find out that it left the slightest of residue and has also been told that the ronsonol lighter fluid in the yellow plastic bottles are also impure. So SWIM was wondering if turpentine could work instead, seeing how its readily available is an organic solvent and is perfectly pure. Any thoughts would help greatly...

try zippo fluid...turpentine should work in theory but i dont have any practice...and it'd take a long time to dry

To my experience naphtha is cheapest and easiest to get non polar solvent so it is recommended. Of course better could be hexane as it evaporates faster.

My friend did it with Ronsonol fluid (the stuff in the yellow bottles) and it worked just fine. I saw somewhere here that there's some batches that are clean while other batches are impure.
But just do the evap test. You could also look for other zippo-type lighter fluid cans. My friend picked up a blue can (can't remember the name) and he was leery because he grew to love Ronsonol. But the blue stuff was completely clean after evap too.

I used turpentine by accident once it still worked out and it did precipe fine with the help of a MiniAB but it killed the yeild some because of the residue factor but give the end product a wash and it should be fine , but as mothballs says zippo is a good alternative product !!
