I would love to grow an Acacia in a semi largish pot, So then when I move I can bring it with me. I don't see the point in growing a tree only to kill it for its root bark. So what would be the best Acacia to grow to harvest only the phyllodes? Any help in this is apprichiated Thank you all I stole a globe map, saw the world for the taking!

Hi Like me you want a plant friendly and sustainable way of getting hold of this stuff. people will correct me if Im wrong but I understand that Acacia phlebophylla or Buffalo Wattle has a very good 'alkaline profile' in its phylodes. The trouble is that it is allegedly extremely difficult to grow outside of its natural ecology which is effectively on one mountain in Victoria Australia. That said, if you can get hold of one (not from Mount Buffalo itself, obviously) and can get it to thrive, then you would be doing the tree a service. alternatively, Acacia obtusifolia has a 0.3% alkaloid content in its phylodes according to wiki. Which I gather isn't too bad. Have you considered Psychotria Viridis or Nexus (named after this forum I believe) which also have good profiles, and I believe a narrower spectrum of alkaloids. ie. a greater percentage of the alkaloids present is DMT. Again I will be corrected if wrong. I plan to go down the Nexus route myself, once I have developed green enough fingers. If I can get my cherry tomato plant to thrive, I then think I'll take on something a little more magical... btw. people are encouraged to research this kind of info for themselves on this site. I have 4 Psychotria Viridis cuttings that I'm trying to get to root at the moment. I was looking into it and I was even thinking of A. Acuminata, or even A. Floribunda. Just having a look now to see if there's much success with these species. I stole a globe map, saw the world for the taking!

I would look at The TOP 8 ACACIAS to Grow WORLDWIDEFrom my perspective, it seems the best to grow (for phyllode alkaloids) is the acuminata variants (broad or narrow) Throughout recorded time and long before, trees have stood as sentinels, wise yet silent, patiently accumulating their rings while the storms of history have raged around them --The living wisdom of trees, Fred Hageneder

I've looked around and have sourced myself an A. Acuminata narrow phyllode variety. Just have to wait for it to grow a bit before its shipped I stole a globe map, saw the world for the taking!

I would suggest either floribunda or obtusifolia, both are reported to have decent yields. A bonus with the floribunda is that it looks beautiful while flowering and can easily be used to decorate.

Acuminata from WA is a great source for DMT from its phyllodes, with 1.5% not unheard of.
Floribunda is also viable, but yields can be low unless you get the right strain.
