So swim decided to try a heptane recrystallization of some yellow powdery spice, and the resulting product was more pale, still a bit yellow, more crystalline, yet somewhat oily compared to the original powder (which seemed quite dry).

What is also interesting is that the deep yellow oil left behind ended up solidifying.

(BTW, this process resulted in the material dividing almost 50/50... 50% mass recrystallized, and 50% left behind as a waxy solid).

My question is, do crystals make any contained oils more apparent than powders, or is it possible that lighter oils came along with the warm heptane decantation, leaving heavier waxy oils behind?

Just to add as a follow up, I did another heptane "pull" on the residual yellow "crud" which yielded some more whitish crystals, but the leftover "crud" again solidified into dark yellow/orange waxy crystals. Is this stuff worth keeping?

NMT/DMT now partially separated by solubility at a guess..
