I cut the middle out of it because there was a big rotten spot, planted the top piece in a different pot (which has stayed the same size all summer so far, but still looks good), and left the bottom piece to grow on its own. A seperate piece has formed on that bottom piece, with the bottom of that piece being solid green, on the side of the top... What will become of this?? Hmmmm.... Concur with dg - it is totally happy - this is how a damaged (chopped-off in this case) cactus regenerates a growing point and continues to grow new tissue - totally normal. Life is a shit sandwich - the more bread you got, the less shit you eat.
