Do acids help pull out the harmine and harmaline? Or does it only help pull the dimethyltryptamine out?

I am doing the caapi/rue brew seperate from the MHRB/psycotria virdis brew and wondered if I should use acid for both. White vinegar is what I will be using as most of it boils off.

Do I even need to do 3 boils for Syrian Rue? I have read that some people just grind them up and put it in a capsule to swallow.

DMT/harmals are naturally in salt form within these plants.

The addition of an acid when boiling 'will' help, to a degree, but is definitely not needed to have a solid brew.

Also, the addition of an acid, especially vinegar, will make the taste much more undesirable. Think of it this way - do shamans in the amazon use an acid when brewing aya? Smile

As far as the 3 boils go, i've always stuck with 3x2 for rue once ground up, and when working with caapi, mhrb, psychotria, etc - i always do 3x3. Might seem like overkill to a few, but as they say - energy in energy out - which imo is definitely the truth ime.

The more thought/time/honest intent you put in, the better the outcome, not just for your brew, but for the experience as a whole.

Sure you could just cap the rue and ingest, but your ingesting plant matter, unwanted alks, etc, which can be rougher on your system versus making a brew or extract. Not the preferred route.

Thank you. I never intended to put Rue in capsules. I just read that others do. I want to stay as traditional as possible. I view ayahuasca almost as a sacrament. I don't ever see myself smoking DMT, ever. That will probably solidify after my first journey. I was planning on taking a trip to Peru but that fell through and I spent my trip money on scuba equipment.

In everything I have read, when they refer to using acid, it is never indicated if it is for the mhrb and psycotria viridis or the caapi and rue. I am assuming it is for DMT only, but after 3 boils, I have my caapi and rue soaking in white distilled vinegar to freeze tomorrow, just in case.

I edited my first post.

I apologize for not clarifying. DMT 'and' harmalas are in salt form within the plants. Initially i just said 'DMT is in salt form'. I fixed my above post.

Using an acid will help pull the harmalas or the DMT, whether it be caapi, syrain rue, mhrb, psychotria, etc.

Sorry if i wasn't completely clear.

Thank you. You have been a great help.

Now that I go back and read it again, the acid refers to alkaloids  I know that harmine and harmaline are alkaloids, but I missed that.
