Recently did an extraction on chaliponga with an AB procedure. Because of the jars I had to work with I had to split the base soup into two separate jars, doing four pulls on each jar.

Because of this there is a total of around 800ml of naphtha that I need to reduce somehow. I have been placing the jar into a hot water bath with near boiling water and not much has happened. It reduced a very tiny amount and I can already see a layer of white fluffy goodness forming on the bottom when it's allowed to cool. However I feel that without reducing the naphtha to at least half the current volume, not a lot will crash out upon cooling and then freezing.

So what would be the best method for reducing the naphtha? I was thinking of placing the jar on a hot plate, but I just had a jar break and spill water everywhere the other night from doing so. I don't want that to happen with my naphtha jar. Could end badly.

Just heating the jar up on a hot plate is not going to expedite the evaporation of the naphtha.

Put the naphtha in a bowl or glass tray/roasting dish, so a greater surface area is exposed and then blow a fan (cold air) across the dish.
This will evaporate a substantial amount in a very short time. (ensure adequate ventilation). Thumbs up

Thank you Cyb, your knowledge is most appreciated. I actually used your method of adding salt to the base stage to try to push more goodies out. It seems to work nicely from what I can tell so far.

I shall do that with a fan and see what results I get. First I need to find a fan, for I just moved and don't think I brought one with me.

Glad you found the tek useful. Pleased
Having a fan around is very useful for all sorts of applications and is a very cheap addition.

I use to have one that I used mainly for stuff like this, but it broke when I stepped on it accidentally in the middle of the night Thumbs down

Looks like I shall be taking a trip to get a new one. Not looking forward to the smell however. Even when ventilated well it stinks up the house.

Place the dish by and open window and blow the evaporating vapour outside...{solved}

If you dont feel comfortable sitting your pan/fan in an open window, you could always try placing it in a room that can be sealed off such as a bathroom and turn on the exhaust fan in there. It will keep the fumes from spreading into other rooms.

I think your naphtha is the "heavy" kind, which contains mostly heavy hydrocarbons with high-boiling points and low vapor pressure (octane and up) , I really doubt that putting it under a fan will be better than putting it on a hot water bath.

Does your naptha smell sweet, flowerish or more like gasoline?

I don't think his water bath was hot enough for it to work. But even if it was hot enough, I don't think its going to evap much without wind. Hot water bath + fan is the best way to go, ime.

One thing to remember though is that you have to have patience. If it takes 4 hours to evap, then it takes 4 hours. No need to try and expedite the process and injure yourself or mess anything up because you could evap your solvent fast enough.

Took around six hours to evap fully. Doesn't look like too much was gotten but we shall see after scraping and weighing it. Only about 125g of chaliponga was used in this extract. Will probably do a few more pulls and then clean everything up with a re-x.

That looks like .7-1g. But it's always hard to eye this out. Lol. What is the average % alkaloid content of chaliponga?

I am not sure what the average is, I think I once read about 1-1.5 percent. However this batch gave me a little over 2.5 grams bringing the yield up to 2 percent. I'm pretty happy with that.

Still have half of the plant material left too Big grin

Youre well on your way to enlightenment then. Smile A re-x would be good. Do you plan do use as is or infuse it?

Me and some friends tried it out as is. It was pretty good but I don't have a GVG so I feel that we probably were burning some of it. So I'm probably going to make a decent amount of it into changa for the bonga. I have some vine for the harmalas as well but not a lot of it, so I don't know if I'll be adding that to it or not.

I plan on doing a re-x on at least some of it to see how much more it could be cleaned up. I just need to get some more naphtha to do so. Was thinking of doing a salting as well in case there is still some fats and oils. The only way I know to do so is either fasa or mixing it into naphtha and mixing that with vinegar. Then re basify and pull again. Is there any other methods that would be better?
