Hi there folks!
I had trouble in the past germinating White Banisteriopsis Caapi, as you know the seed structure is very different from regular caapi; having 4 wings instead of just one.
I ordered another batch of caapi seeds and have now had success! (Germination in just 2 days!)This will probably speed up germination time for other strains too.If this is good enough, as I had many difficulties germinating White Caapi, could a mod please be kind as to move this thread to its respected place in the forums? Thanks My method is as follows:: 1) Remove wings from seed husk.
2) Remove the soft husk of the seed, exposing the heart. You should be left with only the heart now, a tiny seed about 2-3 mm across.
3) Soak the seed 'heart' in plain distilled water for 24 hours, or sooner for the seeds that seem to "crack" (the outer covering of the heart splits a bit from the seed swelling, means enough water has been absorbed)
4) Plant the seeds in a rich soil medium resembling forest soil, I had a small pot filled with peat 2/3 up, then the rest consisted of a mix of peat and dark, rich gardening soil. The seeds are planted just barely below the surface of this mix, most of mine were even slightly above ground (for fast results)
5) Lastly, I covered the seeds in a very fine sort of bark mixture that you usually cover potted plants with, my reasoning for this was that my seeds were slightly above ground, and I didn't want any light to reach them, nor did I want them to dry out on one side (if that's possible). This layer is thin and loose so that the seedlings push through this with ease.
6) Water them again with distilled water and simply wait. My first seedling popped after only 2 days!! ** Note I got these results with very old seeds considered to be not viable by now, they are from October harvest I think, and it's now march. I think this myth of seeds 'expiring' could only be because of badly kept seeds. **Smoothers attached the following image(s): image.jpg (1,836kb) downloaded 42 time(s).Religion is belief in someone else's experience.
