Did I do my FASA Extraction Correctly? Options

Ok, so after I pulled the top xylene layer into a wide dish, I added FASA. A white cloud immediately formed. I waited 30 minutes or so, and poured the contents into another dish. I scraped the bottom of the 1st dish and ended up with a small amount of gooey orange/brown substance that could be easily handled (dmt fumarate?)

30 minutes later I poured the contents of the liquid, now in the 2nd dish, into a 3rd dish. I scraped the bottom of the 2nd dish and ended up with a small amount of a white/yellow gooey substance that could be easily handled (dmt fumarate??)

Then I poured the liquid, now in the 3rd dish, into another dish. I ended up with a large amount of white goo that would melt when touched. I threw this and the liquid away.

My question is, which of the above, if any is dmt fumarate that is safe to consume for oral use?

What was the source material? Probably all of the precipitates were either DMT fumarate, DMT N-oxide fumarate, NMT fumarate, or NMT N-oxide fumarate. You should have let the solution sit longer than that, at least 4 hours or until the solution is totally clear. Once the solution is clear, add some more FASA to make sure that everything is precipitated. Even very crude xylene pulls will precipitate reasonably pure DMT/NMT fumarate since non of the xylene-soluble fats/oils precipitate when adding FASA. It should all be safe to use after the xylene smell is totally gone.

You shouldn't have thrown that goo away, it was very likely most of your DMT. While pure DMT fumarate crystalizes easily, if there is a significant quantity of NMT present, it will disrupt crystal formation and you will get a goo.

The source was Acacia Confusa.

Even if that white goo was DMT, I'm not too upset. I still got alot of material, and it's not like I needed that much anyway. I can always do another extraction. To be honest, I kind of rushed the process (I know, bad) because I'm planning on doing it tonight (very soon), and I needed it ASAP. I'll be more careful next time, and wait for the cloud to disappear before dumping the liquid. You live and you learn. Whether it has been growing mushrooms, extracting DMT, or anything, I always do better the 2nd time. My next extraction will be better. But at least for tonight I have some fumarate that I can use!

I agree with arcologist that you probably threw away a good portion of your spice. With FASA, you need to let it sit overnight sometimes for everything to precipitate out. You know it is done doing its thing when the solution is no longer cloudy.

The thing I have learned over the years.. NEVER rush extractions. They need time to go right. That or you risk accidents and mistakes. And never make plans with your goods before it is sitting in front of you.

Anyway, I hope everything goes well. Make sure the xylene is clean from your spice, dont want to be injesting that.Smile

Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

I completely agree, extractions should never be rushed. This will often lead to wasting product, and mistakes. When working with potentially hazardous chemicals, mistakes can have very serious consequences. Also, don't throw anything away until you are absolutely certain it is not valuable!
