a small confusion with the lye (acrb a/b extraction) Options

hello fellow nexians,

im doing my first extraction tomorrow and everything is ready but i have a small confusion about lye..
in this method https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=44251 its written in the requirements to have a naoh/lye 5% but then again in the part of basifying its said to "WEIGH" the lye which means its in solid pure form not 5% concentration. so i dont know if im missing on something or the 5% was a typing error?
there's also something else, its said to do 4 acid boils which would give me a total of 16000ml [(3600+400)*4] of liquid to be reduced. but it's written that i should reduce it from 8000 to 2500. Wut?

(i would've loved to write my questions in the original thread but im a new member so obviously im not allowed to Smile )

Would be grateful if anyone answered my concerns Smile

From what I can tell the 5% is a typing error, 250g pure lye for 2/3 of a gallon of acidified boils seems about right. Furthermore, 250g of 5% lye would be ~12g, which is obviously too little. As for the boils, their math does seem to be off, I suggest attempting to reduce the 16000ml total down to 2500-3000 ml.

The math is just off. Four 4000ml washes combined and reduced to a total ~2000-2500ml is all you need. If you don't have a pH meter I'd start with 150g or so of lye which is probably more than enough. The solution should go dark and you should be able to see crystals precipitating out if you look closely. If you don't see the reaction taking place feel free to add some more lye, it isn't going to hurt anything. Keep in mind this reaction is exothermic and therefore your solution will heat up.

I'd also like to add while people commonly add lye directly to their acidic solutions or STB extractions I recommend making a lye/water solution and adding that rather than adding the lye directly to the extraction.

If you haven't done this before you would probably be better off starting on a smaller extraction (~100g). The little tips and tricks that can only be learned via using one's own equipment that is on on hand will make doing later extractions considerably easier. These are the things where practice rather than pure knowledge come into play.

One last thing, if you happen to yield a goo/oil rather than crystals please do not fret. It is magical as well Smile

Thank you so much! Im now in the crystalization phase i will leave the naphtha over night and then will freeze precipitate. I had some problems with emulsions earlier but solved it with some lye and nacl. I very excited about it I can't wait. I've never tried DMT or other psychedelics except tripping hard on hash. I hope I will a have rewarding experience from the expected spice to come Smile

Im yielding around 0.15 g per pull but im not doing freeze precipitation i just leave it over night. I think there is no nmt pulled until now. I have brown crystals but not pasty or gooey. I did 3 pulls untill now with the same yield. Is my yield very low or its because i don't do freeze precipitation? I did once after i left it over night and pulled the crystals and had nothing.

From what I'm reading it seems you are using 1kg of root bark if so you're yeild was way off ! It should be a lot higher around 1-2g per pull especially the 1 first couple of pulls !!

Oh ok no worries it could pull a little better but it's you're first extract and you proberly made a couple of little errors ,,but are you

still pulling from the soup , and have you got a final weight yet ??
