Orange Blobs after Sodium Carbonate Freebasing Options

My friend pulled from left over acacia confusa lye/bark mixture with xylene due to naphtha being unsuccessful. The first time my friend did this it worked well. After salting out with heinz white vinegar there was quite emulsion that wouldnt settle so my friend decanted the vinegar as much as he could. My friend then took the vinegar and evaporated it in double boiler on a simmer and stopped because he thought it was done. Later in the night he checked and it was crystallizing! so He continued the next morning to double boil the rest hoping to achieve freebase by heat. It got really thick on a low heat and eventually turned crumbly. It still smelled of vinegar though but my friend tried it and he said it was too harsh. So he went ahead and freebased with sodium carbonate and added some water and once the reaction was done washed repeatedly with RO water and caught the freebase crumbles in 2 coffee filters. Once the ph of the wash water evened out, my friend stuck the freebase crumbs together into a patty on the wet coffee filters(much like BHO with parchment paper). He then placed it in a mason jar to dry and once it did it was even more crumbly and dry with a light brown/tan color. It was later smoked in a VG and he said "Amazing!!!" so it was successful.

My friend tried again on a new batch of lye/bark mix and still got the same emulsion and evaporated the vinegar down. He didnt full evap the vinegar this time and just added the sodium carbonate when it was mostly evapped. Well it worked but now not only is there the light brown freebase crumbles, but orange blobs that are very sticky but float in the water like oil and actually stick to the freebase.

My friends question is, what is this orange blob present? Could it be from not evapping the vinegar fully? or oils from bark?
And can this be fixed? and if not would it be okay to just gather the floating stickiness on the top and just dispose of it? or would it be okay to leave it in?
