Hi, I am doing an caapi extraction and just had a strange happening. After basing first time I had just a few alkaloids in there, then I added vinegar to get the shit out but the solution was crystal clear, well I did filter very well first,

Then I based it again and now I have 4 times the amount of precipitate in there... like magic Razz

If you know whats going on please tell me.

thanks

my guess would be that adding vinegar neutralized the base, and salted the harmalas, making them soluble in water.

and then re-basing crashed them out again, only this time more effectively (possibly due to a higher ph than the first basing).

This kind of thing has happened to me more than once, I just figured that before the solution was re-acidified and filtered the goodies were clogged up and kind of compressed in the dirty unwanted stuff, then when filtered and rebased were able to fluff up so it looks like there is more.

Or its just magic.

I think thats it 3rd because I remember it had to settle 24h the time before and maybe it got much more compressed and just looked so littleSmile

Also I notice caapi extraction is very time consuming and slow process. Settles very very slow everytime.

I guess thats right.

These are caapi alkaloids ready to be dried, almost snow white and VERY fine in consistency. It takes them 6h or more to settle down everytimeSmile

Nothin like after you add that base the second time. A blanket of white fluffy-ness suspended to then slowly fall to the bottom. Love

much love,
