I've never smoked DMT with a sitter; however I had a lot of psychedelic experience before I ever tried DMT. For me DMT is a personal thing, but without knowing more details it is hard to make a recommendation.
I think some people would be better with sitters and some better to fly solo.
Just for reference, I also would never recommend DMT to pop the cherry of a psychedelic virgin. I think it is wise to explore other tryptamines/phenethylamines before even considering DMT.

@caileg. If its not to personal and you are willing to share, may I ask some questions about your chanting? For he who traverses the light is righteous.

Now if sitter implies caretaker, I don't think I need that or want that at least. If sitter implies fellow voyager I don't mind that in the proper circumstance. I don't like launching from sober to hyperspace with a fellow traveler, but if on shrooms or aya and then taking off I don't mind. My only prerequisite is that you respect me and the substance and its power. Also it really depends on the person, my cousin is a reiki master and osteopath and naturopath, he is an amazing person to use psychedelics with because he always invokes profound healing, but my neighbor who wants to smoke dmt with me just to get high and in his words "see shit" I will never travel with.

Im definatley one for a solo mission, as any sort of presence around me just give me too much to think about. Also when I go deep I tend to writh aroud on the floor like my whole body is in one big orgasm, I would probably feel very weird with someone either watching that, or trying to contain it because I was shy.

Most of my experiences have been solo. It wasn't always this way. During my first several months of DMT use I had 1 or more friend(s) either sit with me or in another room. If I am feeling a little too uncomfortable dosing a sitter helps. I have had wonderful breakthroughs with and without a sitter. I prefer to do it alone, specifically for the fact that I can decrease the amount of external thought this way. Have to say though, even with a sitter, with a proper breakthrough dose it doesn't matter. Just like people say with music, you dont even know its there if you breakthrough... most of the time. With the lower doses I like to go solo period. Low doses allow you to think more, contemplate things ect. With someone present that can sometimes create an awkward energy. True true true. In retrospect there are times I wished I had someone to observe me, or at least video record my trip, because I am interested in what my body looks when I am so far out that I forget "I" am a person with a body tripping someplace. I'm talking about the breakthroughs where the universe kind of just seems to explode into light -- it is trips like that where someone could literally walk up to me and steal my wallet right out of my pocket and I would never even know. I know I have came back from such breakthroughs covered in sweat, I'd like to know if I was moving around or saying anything during that time.

I still don't have enough experiences with smoking and ayahuasca to give my definitive opinion, but during ayahuasca trips I feel a great need for the loving presence of my partner. When I've smoked it, I was actually on a long journey to reunite myself with her and on the way I stopped at a park and smoked some changa. I saw visions of my partner but otherwise didn't feel the longing for companionship that I felt while on ayahuasca. I feel very empathetic while on ayahuasca, I feel the loneliness of my existence, and a sense that community is the only real way to comfort ourselves in front of the terrors of the void. The sounds of the neighbors talking and eating is one of my favorite parts of my recent ayahuasca trips, but I only really feel their presence as an abstract community far away. I suppose that's why I like to have someone with me while on ayahuasca. Perhaps this differs from DMT because ayahuasca is much more of a challenge.
On the other hand I've also smoked in the presence of others that were uninitiated and staring at me, and it made me feel very awkward. But then again when I've smoked with my brother who was also partaking, and that was great.
So I'd say that having a sitter is on the whole good, as long as they are people you feel comfortable with on a deep level.
