Some people have used ayawaska or DMT to alleviate depression. Please post related general information and links here so that they can be easily found by others who need them.

While it has often been claimed that ayawaska can cure depression, SWIM believes that it was actually freebase DMT that cured him of depression, and perhaps also whatever residual effects of CFS/ME he may have been suffering from. He personally finds that smoking DMT every one or two weeks gives him a more positive and motivated attitude, and stops him slipping back into a negative mindset.

Here's his first post about how it helped him:

'Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy' by Dr David D. Burns
I would like to draw attention to this book specifically because it is in my opinion a must read. It can be bought cheaply second-hand online from shops such as Amazon. SWIM didn't do the exercises himself (he couldn't be bothered!) but just reading it to gain an understanding of the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy helped him a lot. Smoking DMT then seemed to elevate him from the rut he was in, so that he could use the principles he had learnt from this book to maintain his good humour.

This thread on 'medications for depression' is also relevent:

Also, if you feel that you require healing and would like to discuss it with the community, feel free to start a new topic for yourself Smile

If you would like to work with ayawaska, there's lots of ayawaska-specific information here:

Here's a previous thread about SSRIs and DMT.

If you are already on antidepressants, DMT may well be contraindicated, so do make sure to research fully before use.
I'm guessing that your doctor/psychiatrist wouldn't have a clue because DMT use is relatively rare, but I don't know for sure.

Here's Erowid, which SWIM thinks is a good source of general info (not specific to the subject of depression, but do read the aya or freebase DMT experiences to see what you may be in for):

One of my favorite threads here at the nexus-

WARNING: DO NOT INGEST ANY BOTANICAL WHICH YOU HAVE NOT FULLY RESEARCHED AND CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED!!!

I am Teotzlcoatl, older cousin of Quetzalcoatl. My most famous physical incarnation was Nezahualcoyotl, but I have taken many forms since the dawn of the cosmos. In this realm I manifest as multiple entities at a single time. I am many, I am numbered. I am few, but more than one. I am a multifaceted being, a winged serpent with many heads. We are Teotzlcoatl.
