hey all, I am in my hometown at the moment up in NSW and I took the opportunity to pick some of the mushrooms that grow around our local pine forest. Initially I thought they may have been psilocybe subeuruginosa but on closer inspection they seem quite differen't.

They are somewhat smaller than the subs, lack the wavy caps, often have more bell shaped caps which are moist and somewhat transperant (like salamander skin?), thinner stalks as well .. the full grown cap diameter is generally around 2-2.5cm while the height gets around 5 cm.. they don't seem as potent as subeuruginosa, though I prefer them. They have much cleaner physical effects and the visions off of them are really nice.. I have some photos below. I plan on getting some of them out in the wild.. the caps of the ones below are beginning to dry:

[EDIT] note that the lighter flesh in the middle of the caps is just the moisture leaving them as they dry.. when they are fresh they do not have the lighter center they remain the same colour

Make some spore prints and it will make it much easier for us to help you identify.

I will say that although these shrooms you found look promising, there is a greater chance that they are probrably LBM's. "Little brown mushroom" (or LBM) refers to any of a large number of small, dull-coloured agaric species, with few macromorphological uniquely distinguishing characteristics.

That being said i don't want to crush your hopes . If the spore print is Jet black thats a good sign.

also some info on where you found them and what they were growing on would help.

what hopes? I've eaten these countless times over the past few years and they are definitely psilocybin mushrooms. I took a spore print a few years ago but never put it up for i.d and doubt i have it anymore.. the print is purple.. and sometimes you can even see the spore print on the caps themselves

they grow in our local pineforest in a specific area around dead wood, leaves and pine needles and also in some of the grassy tufts. I'll get some photos of the spot I pick when i go out there next.

all good .. I am wanting to I.D them still. I know they are active because I've eaten them and I originally picked them because I'd heard heresay of active gold top mushrooms in the pine forest.. but no one is really very versed on mushroom species around here so we always just knew them as "the pine forest mushrooms" .. I guess we can at least establish for now that they are wood dwellers
