basifying with or without plant matter?

Sorry if this has been asked already, couldn't find anything...
I'm comparing notes on Cyb's and thick light's teks, Cyb leaves his plant matter in while basifying, thick light strains it out so the basified solution is mostly liquid. What is the benefit of doing it either way?
Would you pull more alkaloids with the plant matter in the basified solution? or would it be better to keep doing washes until the plant matter is completely depleted?

i don't think it matters all that much..
personal preference really.
