Hi all. Last week I started the extraction procedure, using noman's tek. But before doing the first pull, I found out that the plastic syringe I had planned to use wouldn't to the trick. So now I have a jar standing around with mh/lye/heptane, and are waiting for a glass pipette to arrive in the mail. I just wonder, should I heat the mix a bit before doing any more pulls, or doesn't it matter? Will the long break before doing the first pull affect the yield in any way?

the long wait shouldn't affect the yield in any way. separate the naphtha layer, and freeze. than pull again. if and when you mixed the solvent and mhrb soup the first time, the dmt dissolved in the np solvent, and it preffers to stay there (in the non polar layer) no matter how long you leave the jar asside.

^^ If anything more product will migrate to the solvent over time...it's fine to wait Please do not PM tek related questions Reserve the right to change your mind at any given moment.

i agree, this is more probable than the loss of yield. although i have never made measurements in my experiments to confirm this. usually waited till the solution settled, than separated.

That's reassuring, thanks for the quick answers I much prefer to wait a couple of days than to use a sub par solution.

my first two attempts i had difficulty finding a syringe. used a baster also and that went brittle and broke. then i bought a oral syringe from the chemist. it,s small but perfect, when you pull, even if you pull some of the dark stuff in,it will fall to the bottom and you just squeeze it out.small amounts at a time but it does the trick. perfect only cost 50p as well

in my experience heating your sludge makes the solvent take in more color and 'extras' and it tends to come out as red/orange jungle goo, keeping it cold results in whiter crystalline stuff. that is with naphtha, though, don't know if it matters.
