The drug is a hallucinogen similar to LSD but is made in a way similar to meth, which makes a DMT lab extremely dangerous.

lol. No part of this sentence is true.

Regarding the part police play in this story....

Here's a nice little story about a policeman--and (take note) about apparent surveillance on the internet.

@swimfriend, and some people think we are all a bunch of cannibals. And that DMT extractions are dangerous.

Not sure if this was already answered (didnt read the whole thread) but the only way DMT extraction is similiar to d-methamphetamine synthesis is the possible use of glassware, solvents, and NaOH (lye/sodium hydroxide). And of course as anyone who has done a DMT synthesis knows, its not very dangerous, unless you spill lye, or lye solution on yourself.

It's not like lye and naptha and any other chemical used in extracting DMT are chemicals that you couldn't possibly find in any other person's house. For god's sake, they sell these things at hardware stores, so I know it's not illegal to use them. I don't know why news articles make it sound like DMT extraction requires asbestos and uranium.

Another thing is that DMT is not nearly as dangerous to nearby children as LSD. A child couldn't absorb 100 hits of DMT just by accidently touching the wrong thing, which is something that could feasibly happen in an LSD lab.

I thought meth labs are dangerous because they typically produce H2 gas, which, (maybe ironically maybe not) is the same stuff contained in the "Heisenberg"- one of the first Zeppelins that exploded. Folks began using Helium after that one

EDIT- HCl gas is typically produced, which, when in contact with metal, becomes H2 gas- Highly flammable.

I won't post it here, but I believe you can easily retrieve methamphetamine recipes on Google, and afaik it's not the difficult or dangerous to do if you have common sense. The by-products of cooking meth are more toxic, but I don't think it's particularly dangerous to do. I figure that the sort of people who are cooking meth are less responsible and probably take fewer precautionary measures.
