Silly(c)One, why such objection against registration ? Medical patients in the USA have to be registered and it is due to that medical marijuana that legalization will be on the ballots on the 15th in Colorado, Washington and Oregon.

Vodsel, thanks for the update. Do you have any data about the penalties for growing ? Since decriminalization implies "offence" and I imagine that would be a fine.

Not yet. The news about inclusion of an article for regulation of "autocultivo" (spanish term referring to growing for personal use) in the new law in project are just a couple weeks old.

All I can find is that the Frente Amplio party (center-left), with a 48% majority in the congress since 2009, has reportedly solved the internal debate about the subject and agreed to include a specific article in the law. How many plants will be each person allowed to grow, or whether growers will be asked to sign in a registry or not, is still to be decided.

It's a step in the right direction IF it's a step in the right direction. Such registrations can be used in a good way, or a bad way. If it's used in a bad way, it's a step in the wrong direction.

But it IS one more example of how reluctant governments are to give up ANY sort of control over people. IMO, THAT is the main problem which lurks over us all, and which can spring forward with extreme surprise and vengeance in the future.

When the idea of governance begins to greatly loosen from the fundamental idea of civil CONTROL (and moves, for example, toward benign expression of the practical desires of citizens), then "most" ideas of government will be "in the right direction."

This is a bit hyperbolic, isn't it? Aren't you enslaved by the government every time you pay taxes? Should we have no taxes (and therefore no roads, schools, or fire departments)? Aren't you enslaved by a company every time you go to the grocery store? Wouldn't anyone buying from you be enslaved by your profit motive? Don't let your moral high ground get in the way of recognizing society is nothing but interdependence.

This is getting a bit off topic so I'll leave it at this: I don't support everything the government does. Many things (prohibition, foreign wars, etc) I deeply despise. However, if you can't recognize the irony of using the internet to complain about how the government offers nothing of value to its citizens, then I don't know what to say.
