I mentioned to some people about how homosexuality is actaully seen as a sacred thing in Native American culture and how these people who are different are actaully honored, unlike how gay and lesbien people have been treated in other cultures. Many people are not aware of this..

It is considered a third gender not a sexual orientation, I think two spirited people in native american culture are closer to what we call transgender and is just a bit unfair to consider gay or lesbian. They usually were healers or medicine workers. In Indonesia there are five genders. Gender is commonly viewed as a straight line male and female. In actuality it is an all encompassing circle with masculine women, feminine men and everywhere in between. The public opinion on the LGBTQA community in my part of the U.S. is sickening, but I have learned a valuable lesson, which is most of that is social programing and ignorance and most people here I used to consider bigots are just going through the motions, much fewer people than we think actually wish suffering on others with differences than meets the eye. We are becoming more accepting as a whole.

Thanks for touching on this Jamie, this is one of my favorite topics. I have lots of LGBTQ friends and I am intrigued by this.

Here is a link to the wiki about Indonesian gender, I read a fascinating book on it written by an anthropologist who lived with them.Bugis

Also the prophet Daniel of the Bible has been believed by scholars to be an Eunuch. A good writing on this can be found Here as an answer on wiki answers.

Androgonous people are considered highly enlightened in many occult and esoteric beliefs structures.

yes it was in general more of a gender thing..homosexuality and bisexuality did play a role though to some degree..thought it was not really defined in those terms. These are western terms.

You can find this sort of thing in other cultures like the Norse..Oden was said to have been made fun of the gods etc for his femininity etc..and I am sure most know the story of Oden and why he was basically a shamanic figure..this seems to be a common theme in many cultures.

Hmm...the most interesting part about this is that they actaully dont really see it necessarily as homosexuality..these people are neither just male nor female..so if a man has sex with one of these people they are not having sex with a man or a women persay..but with a "two spirit" person(there is lots or words for this from diff tribes)..

The whole thing is very interesting. They never taught anything about this to us in college anthropology classes.

The Warrior’s Prayer
"I am what I am. In having faith in the beauty within me I develop trust. In softness I have strength. In silence I walk with the gods. In peace I understand myself and the world. In conflict I walk away. In detachment I am free. In respecting all living things I respect myself. In dedication I honour the courage within me.
In eternity I have compassion for the nature of all things. In love I unconditionally accept the evolution of others. In freedom I have power.
In my individuality I express the God-Force within me. In service I give of what I have become.
I am what I am: Eternal, immortal, universal, and infinite. And so be it"
