Acidic Reduction Options

from the FAQ i read that dmt salts are stable at boiling temperature. so im here to double check with those who have experience.

will the yield be diminished if one boils all acid cooks down to a manageable amount after extensive filtering.

per lb of mhrb what would be the most reduced one could safely aim for. 1 liter?

this reduction would be from 5 combined filtered acid cooks, each cook being longer and slightly more

boilings always been fine for me and haven't noticed much difference in yield to warm soaks. the salt seems pretty stable

i usually reduce to 500ml.. the less liquid the better

Does it matter what it's reduced to?
The next step is adding Basified water.
Seems like reduce less, less basified water.
Reduce more, more basified water.

I usually reduce a 200g extraction to .5L.
Add basified water.
The amount of basified water added is a function of the size of my Sep. Funnel (1.75L Wine Bottle)
So usually about 1.5 to 1.6L

**basified is not a real word**Razz

it matters alot how much you reduce. there must be a point where the solution becomes saturated, and at this point dmt acetate or whatever acid you used will drop out of solution. i think this might not be a problem when the solution is still hot or simering/boiling because the water has increased solubility. but when the reduced solution becomes saturated and starts cooling the alkaloids may start to precipitate together with some tannins and fats maybe...i think i have seen this once in a dream of mine.

This isn't necessarily true, especially with HCl. Check out this link on HCl. (pp813 table 5)

It has decreased solubility with increased temperature.

i based that assumption on my observations.another example of solubility is with harmala hcl. they are not so easily dissolved in icy cold water, but they are easily dissolved in warm water, at least that was my experience. i apply the same logic in the previous example, to some degree.so maybe the hydrochloride bonded to the dmt molecule or the harmala molecule behaves differently in solution, i am just guessing here.

anyway that was not my main point. my point was that reducing acidic solution to some manageable amount is important, but also the amount of starting material should be taken in account because of the saturation point, of the solution.

Understood.
