Before I continue I want to say, that I did alot of research in Dome Houses. There vastly superior and efficient that regular rectangular homes. The dome shape construction, is also very weather resistant. Domes are great for hi-wind (tornado) situations. There construction, provides safety for earthquake prone area's. Dome's use less energy to run, your A/C bill will be much lower, because of the type of construction. In summer, the home is cool, and winter the home is warm. Also you often get better lighting (thus lowering your electricity bill). There typically easier to build, and can be build in less time then a regular home.

Im ex military, so the VA can fund it, I reside in Southern California. My big question is were can I build such house??? I was looking at the area of Salton City, but its desolate out there. I dont want to build this in the middle of no-where. I'd like to be close to civilization, but I want to design this home.

Any architects or construction folks out there. Anyone with experience with unique custom homes (Dome Houses). Anyone have knowledge of were I can build this???

Man, that kind of work is my dream to start. to be self sustaining, solar planels and grown food and like living on a paradise island where I can live the life I want to Man I dont wanna work till im 65-70 years old.

no i will send you in the right direction for free, look into earth ships, this guy isnt into domes but you want to look at his design to gleen the basis for how to make it run well, then look into geodesic (sp?) domes designed originally by buckminster fuller i believe following that you want to look into aquaphonics and biodomes. then you will end up melding them all together ending up with an earthen north side with a huge geodesic dome fully equiped with aquaphonics systems, all of these systems will work together to make optimum tempurature and clean pure food year round

If you do a little Googling (dome home kits or similar searchwords) you'll find a number of geodesic home manufacturers. My wife and I were looking at these options a couple years back, and although I'm traveling right now and can't post a URL, there are a few companies with websites where you can select options (size, number of windows, etc) and it will quote you a price. You can get quotes for the kit only, the kit plus basic construction, the kit plus finished construction including drywall etc.

The Earthship model is also very compelling and worth looking into... And some kind of fusion of a geodesic dome and an Earthship could be amazing.
