Also coming with 3 Bridgesii that are about 18inches long.

I've just recently started working with cactus. Ordered a couple of Peruvians (from the same person) a few years back and grew them until one fell over and then decided I'd experiment with it.

LOVE. LOVE. Love Cactus!

Were they hell has this plant been hiding my whole freaking life?

Awesome Joe,

I think I was looking at that very one yesterday. Glad its going to(into) a good recipient. Let us know how it is.
Let us declare nature to be legitimate. All plants should be declared legal, and all animals for that matter. The notion of illegal plants and animals is obnoxious and ridiculous.

all of my cacti are seedlings so i have no basis of comparison as far as weight is concerned - approximately how big is an 11 pound cutting?

Me to. It's from a pretty reputable guy...but I won't know until I get to try it.

Cacti made it home. The KK242 is a real monster by the standard of my other peruvian torches. It measures a FULL 4.5 inches in diameter. It is such an awesome specimen that I'm not going to sample him just yet. Going to grow it out all summer, maybe two, then give it a go. I do really want to know it's activity, and I'l find out in due time. I can tell you this. It looks exactly like my other peruvian torches only about 3 times as big around. My other peruvians from the same guy have all been steller. Big grin

The three Bridgesii were all between 18-25 inches. Potted the 25 inch one full, and took 27 combined inches from the other two and am starting the freeze/thaw cycle for a really smooth tea this weekend for a friend and myself. Also trying to regrow both tips from the bridgesii and also two smaller stumps from them (fingers crossed).

Will update after this weekend with he bridgesii report.

Peace.

before you potentially waste your time with the kk242, itd be wise to bioassay it to make sure you know what you have. mysteries are great and all, but sometimes its better to know before the work is needlessly put in.

as far as bridgesii, as you may know im all about eating the flesh as a slightly rehydrated powder made into globs. if you care to know/try this sometime check just about any of my posts concerning cacti, or lemme know here and ill sum it up. after 5 years of cacti i still find it to be the best method of ingestion.

this is how i rank it.

skin globs> ethanol resin> pure mesc> green flesh smoothie> tea resin> tea

I'm certainly not wasting my time with KK242. It's a very cool cactus regardless and one I'll enjoy have around for years....and don't worry it will certainly be bio assay'ed. Smile

As for the tea being last, I'm guessing you don't make tea the same way I do.

I cut into stars. Then I let them sit on top of the fridge (in a container) for 1-2 day's to let the ends just barely harden over.

Then I freeze thaw a few times. 2-4

At this point I pour out the potent juice and save.
Then I fill with a good bit of water and gently simmer for on hour.
Then I let it sit out over night. Decant and start again. Don't disturb the cactus cuts much at all.

The more water you use in the extraction phases the better the extraction. I'll fill a 5 gallon pot up and then gently simmer for 2 hours and turn it off. It retains heat for hours and the extraction continues while the particules slowly begin to settle. Then the next morning I'll decant very carefully before tossing the cactus in the freezer until I get home from work and restart a pot of simmering water to sit over night.

This method results in absolutely no stomach discomfort what-so-ever. My peruvians actually had a rather sweet flavor to them as well. Short of doing a full extraction I'm not even going to bother trying another method unless this one fails me...but admittedly I do not have much experience with cacti....

Edit. Actually the ethanol resin is something I'm actually wanting to try as well.

Peace

mew, got a link to this skin glob tech of yours? sounds interesting!

What are the advantages over just making it into a tea?

Best of luck with your peruvianus joe, if you ordered torch from the same guy before and it had good results, you should be in for a treat/

Care to throw up a pic of your cactus?
