Oxygen, heat, and prolly light are the biggest enemies. I know of someone who has some 4 year old spice that is still very potent. It is stored in an air tight, brown glass vial, in a cool dark place.

My suggestion would be to keep it in the refrigerator in an air-tight, inert container, with oxygen and water absorber packets. You can get both from certain high-end vitamins/supplements or online.

In dark, airtight and dry place it should last for very long, like 2-5 years and still be a good smoke. I think placing it in the freezer is a bit overkill.

A plastic airtight film container seems to work great, in a cool dark dry place of course.
