This is a new thread in order not to derail the 'Telekinesis' or 'Astral Projection' threads. In those, a discussion emerged about how it was important that all "other-worldly" abilities/experiences (Astral Projection was the example) should be proven in a laboratory setting. Hyperspace Fool then gave a rather nice explanation of why this is notoriously difficult to achieve, and that even when it is, the methodology of the proof and the trustworthiness of the participants begin to be questioned...and so on... This got me thinking about something which has always fascinated me - that these sorts of things have always throughout history been 'hidden', 'mysteries', 'secrets'...from the Egyptian high priests, the Greek's highly guarded (on pain of death) secret of the 'Eleusian Mysteries', Alchemists, Witches, to Tibetan monks and us Entheogenistas of today.... The word 'hermetic' is used nowadays to mean sealed off/isolated, and that lovely Victorian word 'Occult' of course means hidden. I was recently thinking about how frustrating it is that we can't 'spread the word' more about all of this fascinating stuff, and then had a very strong and insistent message given to me on my next trip that these things were absolutely not meant to be spread around to everyone - they are meant to be fairly secret, and only accessible to the small number of people who feel compelled to seek them out. The implication of the message was that the hysterical war on drugs / hysterical anti-witch pogroms etc etc ( / maybe even the left-brain skeptic movement ) were almost part of a 'natural order' that ensured that these worlds remained fairly hidden from normal view. Sorry, that was not very well explained...but it was very convincing the way it was conveyed to me! I have no idea why this secrecy should be important...but then there is not much about this world that I understand. I would love to know if anyone has any thoughts on why 'secrecy' and 'direct experience of the World of Spirit' seem to have always gone together. There is an obvious 'Political' answer, but is it more than that?

It's a burden after you die in your experience. Just I think that it's not very easy thing to handle for most people, death that is. The most important spiritual experience IMO, something one can experience with DMT. And this happens only at some point. For me it happened after about 100 journeys.
It's a secret that's accessible for those who ask and knock. And after you knock long enough you die and see everything as one and god within everything, behold and witness it, something that words will never be able to describe(in my experience). DMT is the magical key to these VERY heavy experiences. For me it was both physically and mentally very heavy, well you can imagine what death can feel like.

In terms of the pyramids in Egypt, it seems (as the latest research should indicate anyway) that the commoners believed the pyramids to have a certain set of purposes. Then there were the high priests who had a bunch of "secrets" about the functions of the pyramids. Then in an even smaller group, there were the high initiates of whom most of the high priests didn't even know existed who knew the "true nature" of the pyramids. It reminds me of secret societies still today like the freemasons. You have the vast majority of members who don't even know there's an inner circle. And then you also have an even further elite group of whom the inner circle is unaware of. In these cases the secrets are not merely reserved for those who seek them out, but there seems to be a sort of favoritism at play whether it be from birthright into a powerful family or otherwise. "The Mighty One appears, the horizon shines. Atum appears on the smell of his censing, the Sunshine- god has risen in the sky, the Mansion of the pyramidion is in joy and all its inmates are assembled, a voice calls out within the shrine, shouting reverberates around the Netherworld." - Egyptian Book of the Dead
"Man fears time, but time fears the Pyramids" - 9th century Arab proverb

SecretsAhhh.... we all love them. And hate them. The keeping of secret mystical information is a grand tradition. It has its purpose, and it is what has enabled so many profound techniques, skills, and knowledge to make it into this present age. There are secrets that should be kept because they are dangerous. There are secrets that should be kept because they keep the information pure. There is also that which we deem sacred. By that, I mean the things which we feel so strongly about, that feel so holy and important to us, that we can not bear the thought of their being defiled. In this day and age, I think secrets are dying. It is too easy to spread information. Alchemical rites, Kriya Yoga practices, WikiLeaks... But we can (& probably should) hold onto the notion of the sacred. There are some things that should not be dabbled in. Areas of human involvement that simply should not be trod upon by masses of insensitive feet. Lucid dreaming and astral projection are our birthrights and basic functions of being a human. When people are ready to open into this bliss, they will be shown the way. The ways are narrow. They are not hidden as much as they are hard to use. HF "Curiouser and curiouser..." ~ Alice
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." ~ Buddha

Ah but finding the secret isn't the same as discovering the meaning of the secret now is it? For instance, in my direct experience with the divine I was shown an episode of the 1980's television program Eureeka's Castle (see my avatar ). After I understood this vision, I knew, just KNEW what the secret to everything (involving me) was. I came out of the trip screaming out loud 'I can understand infinity! I can understand infinity!'; and indeed I can still grasp it even now, if only subtly and through very human eyes. But this was MY own PERSONAL way to understand the secret. I often say you're mileage may vary. If anyone here had seen my vision I highly doubt they would have had the profound spiritual awakening that occured in me after that trip. But for me, one vision was all it took. One episode of hyperspacial Eureeka's Castle and I understood everything I ever needed to understand about my own spirituality. However, my experience can NEVER lead someone else to the same profound sense of knowing that I experienced. Maybe this is why in native indian cultures young people went on personal spirit quests in the woods and this was considered a right of passage. There were no priests or politicians around telling the young indian what they might encounter 'in the great unknown', instead they were thrown into the jungle for them to learn the secret for themselves. When they would return, there would be great rejoicing but if I recall correctly, very few indian's discussed the content of their spiritual voyages. It was one of those things that the community understood, they saw the radical change in the individual and left it at that for they might have always understood that such secrets are personal in nature. All posts are from the fictional perspective of The Legendary Tek: the formless, hyperspace exploring apprentice to the mushroom god Teo. Tek, the lord of Eureeka's Castle, is the chosen one who has surfed the rainbow wave and who resides underneath the matter dome. All posts are fictitious in nature and are meant for entertainment purposes only.

Perhaps if we do create this dream, a mass awakening would crumble it. Perhaps an even greater secret needs this illusion. Knowledge can create and destroy.
I too have understood the big secret, saw how it was so plain as day but we can't see it when we are busy living our lives. This is simply the way its supposed to be....this is how it works.
Perhaps there is simply a timeline. Maybe we need to be ready to understand and spread the secret. Or perhaps only through death are we truely ready to understand.

it is a secret because it cannot be shared to another through words/concepts. Some teachers use language beautifully or a book can have words that happen to trigger something from within, but it is always up to 'you'. You can take your beautiful message you were given in a experience and share it to another or many others and speak of it from the heart, yet it is their (and the speakers) self-interpretation that keeps enlightenment a secret. you have to see it to be it to know it, the most you can do to share it is to keep being it

They must know that gain and loss doesn't affect them, how could you know oneness in yourself and all others yet still deliberately inflict hate/seperation/fear ? edit- unless that is what is needed

"Secret" and "spreading the word"-- the "secret" cannot be told, which is why the word cannot be spread-- humanity has tried a few times to "spread the word", something which got us the Judeo-Christian-Muslim tradition. It is obscured, but no-one has hidden it. Those who look will find it, for it is in plain sight. No person can keep it from another. ¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø¸„ø¤º¨

one needs fearlessness as well as a high degree of integrity and compassion to not abuse subtle powers that are gained through expanded perception and if an experience is too subtle to be explained in words, well then it will remain a secret to those limited to words in their communication until they are ripe for it it is just designed that way for a good reason there is truth to the saying: Those who tell dont know and those who know dont tell. blessed be all forms of intelligence

In my experience with a deep Kung Fu lineage, the rationale for keeping the most profound techniques secret is both the purity of the information and the safety of the people who encounter it. It has been incredibly effective for the most part. The system is set up so that you must build your foundation and prepare yourself properly before plugging in the heavy equipment. Trying to skip ahead, which we all love to do, is not always wise. Skipping steps in a DIY kit model airplane means it might not fly... skipping steps in your personal DIY energetic practices could be much more debilitating. There are things that a great Sifu only shares with his most senior student when that person themselves becomes Sifu. Of course, this creates tenuous chains that can break. Sometimes masters die without ever imparting all of their secret knowledge to anyone. Some lineages come to an end because a master couldn't find anyone worthy enough to carry it on. I think that the Universe has a sense of humor. I think also, that we already know all this shit that we find inscrutable and unknowable now. The version of us beyond this space time knows all the secrets. It is just that in coming here, we agree to this damnable memory loss. This "amnesic return" or inter-dimensional memory border customs... very tricky to smuggle information across those borders. So, such things are valuable here. More valuable and more repressed than anything on a black market... "Curiouser and curiouser..." ~ Alice

It is obscured, but no-one has hidden it. Those who look will find it, for it is in plain sight. No person can keep it from another. Pretending you´re in the know about some secret that holds the answers of all possible relevant questions could also help perpetuate a persons or an institute´s reign of power. The vatican is a great example of this.
