What exactly is the purpose/function of endogenous DMT in our bodies? Obviously it isn't just some pineal gland mambo jambo so could someone share some information? Thanks

Hey Smile

We have a FAQ entry related to this pineal gland story and it's functions

If you click the third link, "if dmt would be a neurotransmitter", there is a nice discussion on that thread Smile

As you see, endogenous dmt function is still unknown, it may have several functions. It has been proposed it might, among other things, have an anxiolytic role

Man, I love anxiolytics! Very happy

But hey, everyone knows endogenous DMT causes dreaming and NDE's, Joe Rogan says so! Geeze, Endless...

It certainly does remove the anxiety about visiting hyperspace and it calms the body in general, after I smoke 15mg "warm up dose".

you can't pinpoint any single function on a ubiquitous signal transduction ligand such as DMT, which has affinity to different receptor systems.

^..i agree with benzyme..the same over-simplifications are made frequently in popular books & press regarding serotonin (5HT)
..with endogenous tryptamines there are physiological as well as mental effects...
