Storing various things, but mostly worried about crystals and to a lesser extent resins.

Protecting against light seems good, so colored glass would be best. Chemicals always seem to come in brown glass, and am thinking its due to the most light cutting effect. but the colors of vials here are clear, green, blue and brown (amber kind of). Blue also looks rather dark, but i wonder, being blue, it it lets in too much UV (blue end)?

So, what is the best color glass for storage, long term, of extracted things?

If it's a big issue keep in mind that a clear bottle in a box or bag will do the same thing. The bottle itself doesnt have to be real dark. Put a sticker on it around it's center and that itself will block a considerable amount of light. I have found simply keeping sensitive chems in a cupboard cloased to the light works well.

I would assume brown, because that's the color used by the chemical manufacturers and/or distributors.

Take a look at violett glas like these from Miron.
It is used by many companies which produce for example tinctures, essential oils and spagyric/alchemistic products.

I prefer this kind of glas for my extracts and tinctures, but I think it´s not necessary to use miron because there are couple of glas producers which have nearly equal products. I have some products from american companies which came in violett glas, so it should be available in the US.

Thanks a lot for the input. They will be kept dark and have a small label, but it is nice to be able to see inside the bottle a little to see how much there is. Good point about storing, will keep them boxed, but when they are taken out there is still light. probably been to anal.

And thanks for that figure on the amber, that is good to know. Will go with amber. And those "miron" jars look pretty neat to. will probably pick a few up for things that are extracted in bulk and stored longer. There is a lot of plant pigments (not crystals) extracted and need storing out of light.

To keep unstable molecules intact they're best kept away from light, air and heat.
What is most simple, yet effective is glass jars/ziplockbags covered with material that doesn't allow any light to shine through.
I guess you could take regulair glass jars and paint them black on the outside.
Off course any chemical is best preserved in a freezer.

Has anyone got any experience with Miron glass ? It seems to be a better light blocker than amber.
