..how can you prove this? for the last 20 years evidence of plant consciousness has grown around me (pun intended)
their consciousness may not be like animals, but it can't be shown to be 'not there'...

You're right and it can be proven that plants have both irritability and adaptability, which at least shows response to the environment. I think they have a conciousness that is much slower and simpler than ours. Time is just a perception based on our life spans. All the units of measure have been created by people, like revolutions around the sun being years.
