for regular evap? i usually do freeze precip but i no longer have a freezer cold enough to do the job, it just won't work. so how long do you think it would take to evap a 1in layer of solvent in a 12in by 8in pan?

Depends on the solvent and the temperature. It usually takes SWIM a couple days for an inch or so at room temp. Things can be sped up by putting it in a crock pot on warm. Dont use high on low setting! It will get hot enough on those to vaporize your goodies. Also, I probably don't need to mention it, but don't do this inside.
As an alternative, depending on where SWIY is, it may be winter now, so there may be a giant freezer on the other side of any given window. What makes the "outside" freeze precip really nice is that the temperature cools slowly as the night goes on usually, which grows giant crystals.

SWIM made some major advances when he discovered using an electric fan heater to blow and evap UBER fast. (full pull from basified sludge to crystal takes about 2 hours) remember: use as small a volume of naptha as possible, and don't leave this one unattended. shoe

Just don't inhale solvent residues or other crap, be patient!

It was from the first reply. In cold areas the outdoors make a better freezer than the one in the kitchen in December. Plus, the temperature drops really slowly from afternoon to the middle of the night, yeilding large crystals because of the smooth temperature fall. This way you don't have to do the freezer -> fridge -> freezer technique to get large crystals, and the yeild is better because it can actually get colder outdoors.
