Hot Box Vaporizer for DMT Options

I am new to DMT, but certainly not new to marijuana. So, I have the Hot Box Vaporizer, and realize that it would be silly for me to spend $100+ for the GVG without even trying the Hot Box.

I did a little research, but couldn't find much information other than a recommendation to have a dedicated whip, to keep the flavor out of my weed. I have recently vaped DMT with the Hot Box, with mini doses of changa, and discovered that it indeed works, but not as well as some reports I hear about the GVG. I was trying 30mg of infused DMT, and had a lovely experience, but I have heard of that dose producing breakthroughs with the GVG.

Does anyone else here use the Hot Box to vape DMT? If so, please post any tips you have. Once I experiment more, I'll post what I have learned.

i dont own one, but i dont think it will work better then a gvg.

hotbox is conduction
gvg is convection

for changa convection is always better, rarely burns, and changes it all to vapor very quickly

you should look into making "the key V2" (on this site) instead of a gvg to save on costs, works almost as well
May you find the Light... and bring some back.

Actually, the Hot Box is convection, not conduction. The hot element is used to heat the air entering the whip. So if they are both convection, is it not possible for their potential performance to be the same?

I have heard that vapes can work quite well. Handheld units just make the process more convenient and portable.

Thanks for the encouragement. BTW, I am a big fan of your work on the Key and Key2-- I recommended the thread to a few folks.

My impression is that with a vaporizer tuned to marijuana temps (~350 Fahrenheit), it may be too hot and degrade the DMT. However, I have not been able to find anything conclusive on the temperature at which DMT degrades (only that it starts vaporizing ~140 Fahrenheit).

While the VG utilizes a regular lighter for marijuana, Folks use a torch with DMT, which would suggest that the temp for peak DMT vaporization should actually be higher than marijuana.

Is it possible that the lower threshold dosing from the VG is due to oxidizing a small portion of the DMT to n-oxide?

I believe I have found a way to utilize the Hot Box that begins to rival the GVG. The key is to allow the changa to get more hot than I would allow for marijuana, and to inhale slowly, to allow all the DMT to vaporize out of the leaf. The technique might be a bit different for straight freebase.

My spouse and I had sub-breakthrough doses of changa last night. She is 109 lbs., and experienced strong OEVs with ~20mg, I am 162 lbs. and had a mild experience (but no OEVs, just CEVs) with the same dose. I will keep working with different techniques to find the most effective method

The Hot Box costs more than the GVG ($150 vs $100), but folks who already have one can certainly use it for dmt. It also offers a several advantages to the VG:
- the HB uses a fitted, heated glass element instead of a torch, resulting in more control over the application of heat
- the dose is held horizontally, rather than vertically, possibly leading to less 'dribbling' of liquid dmt away from the heating source and being wasted
- the handheld whip, which holds the dmt, is easily dismantled and cleaned
- Each whip costs $20-- so multiples can be owned (one for marijuana, one for dmt, etc)
- the HB seems a bit less fragile. Even if the whip is broken, it can be inexpensively replaced
- on the aesthetic front, there are numerous customization options for the HB (for a price, of course)

The only disadvantages I can think of for the HB
- The cheapest model is $50 more expensive than the Sherlock VG, and $100 more than the 'classic' VG.
- the HB is not portable
- the HB requires an electrical outlet

I have made a vaporiser the simplest and cheapest way ever.
I carefully sawed off the metal fitting of a spent lightbulb and carefully break off the
glass & glowwire assembly inside the bulb with a screwdriver.
I would take a 10 cm long pyrex tube from an old volcano vaporiser and use it as an inhaling-tube.

The large hole makes it easy to load up with alkaloids and the thin, but very heat resistant bulb-material is perfect
for getting alkaloids to evaporise fast. It still doesn't work as good as a pyrex crack-type pipe, but does the job perfectly.
Even in those perfect pyrex pipes ( with the tiny hole in the bulb ) you don't vaporise the entire dose of DMT you put in it
completely unless you have extremely pure dmt.

Cheapest, proper-working DIY-vaporiser ever.
