Whether civilization goes further back than what we know is plausible. New things are discovered all the time which alter previous, strongly held theories. Anthropologists just recently discovered that H. erectus and H. sapiens did not co-exist as formerly thought; H. erectus was extinct by at least 143,000-550,000 years ago.
