Yes, it is possible to become fully immersed in the DMT realm. It can be very participatory, but often without a body, since the body is left behind (that’s why they call them out-of-body experiences, after all). On several occasions I wasn’t disembodied, and it is possible to interact in that environment as well.
There are only two fears I have regarding DMT, and both of them are irrational: I fear that it is possible to have an experience that will leave me permanently unable to function upon return (some sort of permanent psychotic break, I suppose), and I irrationally believe it is possible to enter the immaterial DMT realm and never return. What exactly it means to “never return” isn’t clear to me – would I die in “normal” reality, would normal reality cease to exist, would I awaken to discover that normal reality never existed in the first place? Who knows…
It’s all very irrational, and I consciously know it’s irrational, but a subconscious part of me isn’t so sure. I once had an experience that was unlike any other – it led me to believe I had died. I have never been so far from my body. I wanted so badly to get back into my body, but I didn’t know where it was or how to get back. Eventually, I was able to “will” my everyday reality back into existence. It felt very much like I was willing my “higher self” back into a dream-like state – dreaming this reality back into existence. That experience was over a year ago, and it remains my most profound and unique journey.
So to answer your question “is it possible to not come back?” – the rational materialist in me says no, but after some of the experiences I’ve had, and acknowledging the irrationality of the idea, I tend to think it’s possible to not come back, whatever that means.
And to answer your other question “how do you come back?” – there really isn’t anything you have to do. With “ordinary” DMT experiences, coming back is as natural and smooth a process as going away.
