From personal experience, I can say that a dose inhaled in a single hit and held “for as long as possible” is the best technique to maximize absorption. If a dose is held for about 20 seconds, there is little if any vapor exhaled, suggesting near 100% absorption.
Keep in mind that DMT is metabolized very quickly, and I think that the metabolization rate is not linear (for example, a small dose is metabolized more than twice as fast as a dose twice as large). With multiple hits, you need to hold the hit in, then exhale, then take a breath or two, ending with an exhalation all before taking another hit. During this time, the previous hit is already being metabolized.
An extreme example I gave in another thread was this: Consume a 30mg dose in 30 hits. Let’s say it takes 2 seconds to inhale a 1mg dose, then it is held for 5 seconds, then exhaled in 1 second. Occasionally an extra breath is taken, maybe a pause now and then to prevent hyperventilation, so the entire 30mg dose administration will take somewhere between 4 and 5 minutes. In this extreme example, it’s unlikely you’d feel any effects at all.
At the other extreme is a single rapid inhalation. This is easily achievable even for someone with average lung capacity when proper equipment and technique is used. With a GVG and a thin metal mesh disc, an entire 30mg dose will vaporize in a second or two. The dose can then be held comfortably for 20 seconds or so. The effects of such rapid administration are extreme, and I actually wouldn’t recommend this technique for inexperienced users.
