when did DMT become commonly extracted? Options

I'm interested in a bit of history as to how we got to where we are today in terms of extraction procedures etc. This was brought about by listening to Terence Mckennas "Tree of Knowledge" workshop, the workshop was from the early 1990's I think.

In it he discussed DMT at length. In one part he discusses how DMT is hard to find, and that most of the time it is bought from a dealer who has synthesised it, to varying degrees of success. He says most of the time it is a yellow / orange goo, and that only once had he come across white crystal powder.

I read that it was first extracted in the 1940's. I assume TM knew this, did he maybe not want to mention it in public for fear of legal troubles? Or were the teks not known then?

Was it very hard to extract before the modern teks, and when did they get developed? Anyone know a bit of spice smokers history?

The link to the workshop is below, if anyone is interesed - it's a good one.

The first DMT tek was the one I used about 7+ years ago it was known as the QT tek or quantum tantra tek. It resulted in a yellow goo that was to say the least a nightmare to smoke and only rarely ended up in a breakthru experience. Marsofold and me wrote more modern teks at the time as there was a great deal of research from members of DMT world to bring about a purer product. Over the years new teks have been created mostly for those who did not have access to the materials required in these two teks. DMT world was a experimental time in DMT extraction. There were allot of dedicated people who spearheaded the freeze precip and the solvent wash concepts to remove impurities in the spice.

From what I know the DMT that came about in the 60's and 70's were from a stolen batch of military DMT that made it to the underground and for years this was the sole source of DMT in the world. That is from what I have heard and I cannot attest to its accuracy.

Per Wikipedia, it was first extracted by Goncalves de Lima in 1946 - but as to when it began to be DIY kitchen chemistry, Vovin would probably know. I don't believe his anecdotal info about the military stash, however.

The first person to smoke the freebase, to my understanding, was Nick Sand, who began his underground chemistry career synthesizing DMT in his Brooklyn bathtub, before moving on to STP and then making a whole lot of LSD. I just finished reading Acid Dreams, and there wasn't anything in it regarding the CIA or American military doing DMT experiments. They did, however, keep a plentiful supply of LSD on hand (as well as STP and quite a few other less friendly psychedelics) for decidely nefarious purposes.

From some interviews I have listened to and things I have read that is my impression. I think despite focusing on mastering highly pure LSD sand continued to synth DMT as well. It was actually really interesting stuff to hear Sand talk about. Sand really took that stuff seriously to make it as pure as possible and it was a spiritual thing to him. I also read that when he was busted in his Vancouver lab DMT was one of the things that was being made (though LSD was the major one).

Thanks for bringing up Nick Sand. I was not aware of this character within the psychedelic community; it sounds like this guy was a true rogue! My applauds go to the man who was part of an LSD operation that could have dosed every man, woman and child in Canada 1.5 times.

There are two very good articles written by him in the files section - one entitled Moving Into the Sacred World of DMT, and the other one, Just a Wee Bit More on DMT is especially rockin'.

I just took a look at this quantum tantra tek : http://www.scribd.com/do...xtraction-Quantum-Tantra
It looks pretty much like a modern a/b, how could this result in a yellow goo ?

It was the first AB tek but allot of the details were ironed out in later teks. Notice there is no reference to freeze precip which was invented by 23 and solvent wash which I figured out through experimentation. The QT tek recommends using lighter fluid which is known to have lubricants in it and is not pure. One of the processes he used was to separate using a plastic bag. I can tell you from experience that it will etch allot of plastics and those chems will wind up in the result. There was allot of ways in which one could go wrong if they didn't have a good bit of experience under their belt.

I did a lil bit of Google and I found a statement from a guy:
Terence McKenna's assertion that he first tried DMT in the late '60's in Berkeley - his supplier claimed it was stolen from the U.S. military and they had BARRELS of it-

I think it was in one of his books but it has been so many years since I read it I cant remember where. it's in a reply on this youtube video:

It could be I am working off 7 year old memories and I am a little bit fried so things kinda get mushed together with time. There was also a yoda tek as well but I cant remeber when in the timeline it came before or after QT.

Wow, this guy needs to write a book, i know it would be hard getting a publishing deal 'on the run' but this is really what ive been waiting to read about DMT, this is exactly what i feel DMT can do... i wish i'd read this instead of Strassmans book in the days leading up to my first DMT experience.

"You can enter into the trip with a strong desire to find an
answer to something that is bothering you, something you
need to know, either in your practical life or to find a direction
or vision to carry you forward on your spiritual quest.
You can draw answers from the Akashic record in this DMT space."

To be honest in sober meditation i can go much further, but i do think psychedelics can be genuine tools for purifying past life karmas, they can't purify the Self but can purify the non-Self

then i read this...

"DMT is a healer. It is a curing drug. DMT purifies your systems
by quickly eliminating the toxins that have built up from
unconscious living. If your gut is filled with junk food, you
may spend your trip vomiting. DMT will clean you out. If
you are coming down from too much smoking, drinking,
eating, drugs, etc., you may have to go through some unpleasantness,
as DMT cleans your house with awesome efficiency."

Its so so true, i remember in the afterglow i felt so clean & wanted to do loads of intense Yoga
