I'm looking at the Tek, and I see that he doesn't mention doing multiple pulls...
Common sense is telling me to do 3. But perhaps an A/B is different than a STB in this regard?
I will be using xylene for my pulls (FASA).
My other question is what is the best type of acid for marsofold's?
I hear rumors that citric acid protects against DMT oxidation and that phosphoric produces incredible yields. Then I hear reports of people just using the root's tannic acid and getting good results. Should I just stick to acetate?
Last question, when salting the xylene with fumarate, do you only need to salt your xylene once? Or should you do multiple saltings? How many times should I salt to get 90% of the yield you think?
Thanks
No, multiple pulls a (with the non-polar solvent) is necessary to get everything out irrespective of A/B or STB. With xylene and FASA usually 4-5 pulls are needed to exhaust everything (of course the number depends on the amount of xylene and the starting MHRB used). You know when the bark is exhausted when adding FASA does not cause any more precipitation of fumarates (or causes too little precipitation to bother about).
As for acid, anything goes. Both hydrochloric acid and acetic acid are volatile and they can be boiled off of the brew, whereas phosphoric acid, citric acid, ascorbic acid, tartaric acid etc cannot be boiled off. This is totally irrelevant to the extraction procedure though, and any acid or even no acid can be used.
SWIM does not know whether citric acid protects from oxidation. For A/B he usually uses hydrochloric or citric acid with some ascorbic. Ascorbic is added as a precaution to oxidation.
Phosphoric acid does not produce incredible yield, people report very potent aya (or aya analogue brews with it). Could this be possible due to the solubility of dmt phosphate in water? Maybe. In an A/B one wants to diffuse the dmt salts from the plant material into the water. Some salts may be easier to diffuse from the plant material, some more difficult. Phosphate salts may diffuse faster. That means that if one plans to do a 3x3 hour boils, any acid or no acid is irrelevant. This is really long boil and ensures most dmt will get out of the bark. If one wants to go for 3x 1hour boils maybe phosphoric acid is a better option? Again maybe. SWIM has never tried phosphoric acid.
And hard data on the rate of extraction of different dmt salts does not exist.
Go figure. The safest option of course is to do 3x3hour soft boils with any acid.
