Hello all. I have taken a long break from entheogens excluding a few shroom trips a couple years ago. Since then I have had a hernia and a problem with my shoulder, hence the Suboxone regimen. Currently I take between 8 and 16mgs daily. I have been feeling the call to take a journey for a while now, but the more I read up on the subject, the more I come to the conclusion that I need to be off the Suboxone in order to take RIMAs safely. I do not want serotonin syndrome or even to fear that it may happen. I am in no hurry to partake, but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for a timeline of how long I need between last dose of Suboxone and ayahuasca journey, or experience taking ayahuasca while being on a Suboxone regimen. I would like to get off the stuff as I have been on it for 2 years plus, but I still have not had surgery or dealt with my pain, but at this point I’m tired of taking it. I believe the half life is between 25 and 35 hours or so. Thank you for your help. Kind regards TurkeyNeckMusk.

TurkeyNeckMusk, Welcome to the Nexus. We really cannot give medical advice, just thoughts and opinions. Suddenly going off of suboxone without being closely medically supervised does not sound like a good idea to me. Withdrawl is no fun. Having written that may I ask if you have ever vaped DMT? It might be an option. No MAOI, no oral dosing, just vaping crystal or changa. I hope you find what you are looking for and again want to warmly welcome you. "But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."-Rick Doblin, Ph.D. MAPS President, MAPS Bulletin Vol. XX, No. 1, pg. 2Hyperspace LOVES YOU

Well I’m not asking for medical advice per se, considering how there are many posts and threads about what I’m asking, just not with Suboxone, I figured someone could tell me a timeline they have read seen or used. Also, I don’t need someone to tell me how my medicine works, lol. Thanks, but no thanks for your reply. So any experienced people with real knowledge? I’m not asking for medical advice. A link to a page with real info would be cool but I can’t find any clear answers. Some websites say there are absolutely no contraindications, while some say Suboxone and tricyclic antidepressants killed 2 people. Yes I know we’re talking maois, but that’s what I read. Some sites say maoi and Suboxone is a Nono. No real answers.
Does anyone have experience with this or talked to someone knowledgeable about maois about this. I am not asking for opinions or advice about my Suboxone treatment, I am well aware of withdrawals and the like. If it’s okay to say wait this long for antidepressants and this long for food and this long for such and such, I do not see how my question cannot be answered unless we just don’t know. Thank you for your time.

Best to have caution and be sure, which can be achieved with the longest reported half-life multiplied by 5.5 to be considered cleared from your system. I do not know much about Suboxone but I'm finding search engine results stating 38 hour half life, which multiplied by 5.5 gives you the suggestion that it can be clear in 209 hours or almost 9 days. I could tell you how close in the same week I've dosed opium and ayahuasca but I don't think it's the same. Good luck. No judgement. I'm a man from a place with hands and a face. Opium is similar sort of, because the thebaine in opium is contraindicated for maois so that would at least give me an idea and I could compare the 2 half life’s. Thank you, this is the kind of info I am looking for. Also, even though an uncommon issue, I believe it is important to find out, because there are many people who could benefit from ayahuasca, but have intractable pain, addictions, etc. I will definitely err on the side of caution and like I said if I need to ween off and quit, good, finally! Yes please tell me your experiences with opium and ayahuasca and the timeline as well as any other opiates, or other Nono drugs that are not SSRIs or that kind of thing. I'm only 1 person with 1 person's experience though. But yea I've done opium 9 days before ayahuasca and ayahuasca 3 days before opium. I'm a man from a place with hands and a face. Part of the heart of the human race. It illuminates. ∵ ✞ ☯ ॐ ☮ ღ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ © $ ∴ Ę$ø✞ę®ȉ©

So any experienced people with real knowledge? Well, you are asking for medical advice, and your snarky response to a helpful reply indicates that you want to hear what you want to hear and don't seem interested in anything else. Wish you luck suddenly stopping your physical dependance without problems. But I can't imagine aya being a ton of fun while in withdrawawl from subs, which is a horrible experience. Got nothing for you beyond that. Also, a very simple goog gave me the info you are looking for, so... Sine experientia nihil sufficienter sciri potest -Roger Bacon *γνῶθι σεαυτόν*

I just want to mention that I've done Opium I've grown myself since 2004, very intermittently, with respect for the problems I could make for myself if I were using it too frequently, and never with any physical dependence or addiction. It might be a different situation if you are dosing on the Suboxone daily to get over dependence, and I say without any judgement on you as a person that perhaps you should continue with a plan to taper off opiates completely to get that squared away prior to looking for benefit from Ayahuasca. ie get yourself to a point where 9+ days without any opiates is an easy thing to do that won't cause problems for you. If you use Suboxone to avoid withdrawal with plans to be opiate-free then it may be best for you not to carry the feelings of withdrawal into ayahuasca experiences. If you are a smoker or are willing to vape DMT then doing that without any RIMAs can also be an option. But we need feelings of peace while doing Ayahuasca and feeling withdrawals may not be the most peaceful thing you can arrange for yourself. I'm a man from a place with hands and a face. Null 24 that’s a bald faced lie. First of all asking when something is no longer in your system is not asking for medical advice. Math is math. The FAQ is full of medical advice based on your supposition!!!! There’s even timelines for how long to abstain from things for ayahuasca. I disagree and will continue to be snarky to foolish people who can’t read. My question has nothing to do with medical advice. I did not ask how long should” I”be off it and ask you guys how to wean off, I asked a math question nothing less nothing more. How long does it take for something to be safe is not asking for medical advice. Clearly the guy with the half life equation had no problem answering my non medical question without giving medical advice thanks for all your help and time buddy. I’m glad you care so much. Doink. If what I’m asking is considered medical advice then any page warning people about Rimas and interactions is medical advice and should be taken down. Thank you.

I also think it’s pretty funny a bunch of people are acting like I, the one on Suboxone, doesn’t know about my own medication. Oh really? withdrawals suck. Wait what, Suboxone is addicting. Ayahuasca and a bad mindset don’t go well together? Oh man, I had no idea. Come on!!! Uh yeah, hmm I don’t know how pain killers work…GTFO!

Methadone and MAOI is a potentially fatal combo, because methadone is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Suboxone, according to this article, does not inhibit the reuptake of serotonin, and so is theoretically safe to combine with MAOI use. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16051647/
