Hello!
What is the nature of tolerance from long lasting psychedelics?
Brain needs 12 days at least after LSD to get into the original state (from the neurochemical point of view). So what is changed after the trip, what is affected by these changes?
Are all the stuff with long lasting tolerance tail has depressive influence as it decreases receptors sensitivity?
Are people really suffer from lack of serotonin influence for days after the trip? Even if they may feel enlightened from new neural links formed.

If I'm not mistaken, much of this revolves around the sensitivity and receptivity of the appropriate sets of receptor sites, such as the 5-HTs. These molecules interact with these sites in manners that briefly alter activity and response of these receptors.

I'm not sure how accurate this is and I think it's also molecule and dose dependent. In some instances, the receptors can "burn out" for time, such as in instances with high dosage of high frequency. Other times, it seems to increase sensitivity in certain ways.

If I have some time later I will try and see if I can find some papers on this topic to share.

Speaking of molecule... It seems that we have 5-HT* receptors for serotonin and endogenous DMT (let's assume that it does the job for brain and is not just useless byproduct of serotonin and melatonin producing). DMT has MAO as the built-in antidote. All other (non-endogenous) psychedelic molecules just exploit existing mechanisms and don't have full antidotes. And the farther a molecule from the friendly tryptophan family the more unpredictable and damaging it can be. For example, LSD looks monstrously big comparing to DMT and is responsible for most cases of HPPD.

So is it right to speak of tolerance as of damage? Like from stimulants. Recoverable maybe but still damage.
(I mean tolerance after the full withdrawal period)

The 5-HT systems works with all tryptamines if I recollect correctly.

And I'm not sure, but I think that with enough MAO (levels vary from person to person) I feel like many tryptamines will be broken down and inhibited, not just DMT.

I'd have to take a look at TIHKAL in order to share an opinion on this one, but I've had similar inklings.

I think all aspects of this depend on context. Granted, I've yet to meet someone or be made aware of someone who has experienced tolerance within the specific scope you've laid out.

Tolerance aside from full withdrawal I would not say is indicative of damage.

I know experienced people who can't sleep well for 2-3 nights after LSD or 5-Meo-MIPT. And they feel depressed during the post withdrawal tolerance period. Subjectively it's feel like some sort of serotonin pit.
And there's no any of this with DMT.

Personally speaking I get some of my best sleep after an LSD trip. I also get an after glow for a few days after which may be contrary to the majority. I also space my excursions at least a month apart to avoid tolerance issues.

Sometimes it's like our momentum. Momentum of issues being resolved versus momentum of our psyche got disturbed. Like there can be afterglows or there can be plummets and crashes. So it doesn't seem like it's dictated exclusively by the drug and it's dose always. Our momentum can be steered one way or the other or even both with these experiences, and our reaction to these experiences. Like I think soul-searching and self-learning and resolve can be one thing while overdoing it as a recreational activity can have consequences. But I'm not preaching when I say this because there is nothing wrong with enjoying something in life.

I may have went off the actual topic. My opinion is that sometimes a person could find the benefit in dosing 2x/month and sometimes it's just too frequent for the individual. We can find our balance and figure out over time if we have disturbed any delicate balances. I do think though that it's not only our brains returning to the state from which there's again no tolerance, but it's also our reaction, our readiness and our function etc. Sometimes maybe it's like once we've already went there completely we may be less in awe of the same distance traveled.

I hope we all can trip successfully. I believe in the balance within which we can have a lot of benefit, and I know that burning ourselves out as individuals trying to enhance our experiences can also happen. Cheers.
