I just wanted to say that I do this as well hahaha. I love taking old sub and starting a new plant with some other magic in there. Always makes for the neatest pics! Thanks for sharing yours!
Don't worry, B. Caapi!

yeah its fun and neat. I think the mycelium benefits the plant in the pot; symbiosis. Share your pics when you can Smile peace

This is encouraging to see the photos. One of my current experiments I just started with shrooms is to add unpasteurized natural soil once the mycelium is established, basically trying to get a feel for how it impacts the fruiting, and how early I can add it. trying with cubes first since they are bullet proof, and then plan to expand to Mexicana based on the results. My mistakes have led me to suspect that it may help, but this time I am going to do a parallel a/b test with an inoculation based on one clone, and with automatic humidity and fae control. Sort of seems strange to push the boundaries of contamination when my whole past technique has been to avoid contamination. But, like in life, I am not sure a sterile world is the best for a shroom. Besides, it is fun to experiment by messing things up, and if I end up with a mess, I am sure the plants outside will like it.

Last year/several months ago, I buried several quarts of P. mexicana into my L. sibericus trough and they Loved it! Even found a few sclerotia peddling about just below the surface. They grew in nice dense clusters, and I even got what appeared to be diff phenotypes(right word?) of the species growing side by side even though I started all of it from a single culture. Not sure how that happened but I dont mind lol. Maybe it wasnt a mono culture after all? Anyway, it was amazing. I was able to make myself a TON of prints for the future. I even gave a bunch out to my friends for free. <3

I have a couple contammed spawn jars (cubes) that I plan on spreading out and covering with some good soil under a few bushes in about a month when it stops freezing-- just for kicks. I've seen where others have recycled their failed experiments into useful grows by just taking them outside and letting nature happen.

Maybe before that, you can dump your spawn into a suitable substrate and let it get 100% colonized to but ensure to keep it out of fruiting conditions to prevent them from coming out too early? Although I haven't tried either method, I imagine it should increase your odds. Either way, I'd love to hear how it turned out. Good luck!

Edit: I completely missed the fact that you said *contammed* spawn. Now I like your idea to toss it in some soil. Try to scrape out whatever contam you can get before you dump it. Again, good luck!

One only does this with contaminated jars. The yield is not good. One can only get one flush out of each crushed up contaminated spawn which one places outside on top the soil of a plant. 1 out of 5 dont give any shrooms. The amount some yield in their only flush generally amounts to one dose which can vary in strenght. Perhaps one more shroom pops out of the soil two weeks after the first flush, but after that they dont come back. They always come out small, but they have a hardier aesthetic to them, they dont look at all like the same strain of shroom grown in a plastic box indoors.

Yep-- since they're going to be trashed anyway, I figure why not punt and see if a shroom or few pop up Smile

What do you guys think of doing that in a compost bin? The heat of the composting may promote the mushrooms' growth in the cooler months. Has anyone tried it?

I may have seen pics of something like this on the shroomery once. Definitely a possibility.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
