Hi everybody ! That's my first post here though I've been reading nexus for some time now. I started gathering info about dmt about 2 months ago. I studied almost every dmt extraction tek avaible . I even came up with a good tek for extracting dmt from phragmites just by combining some of the other teks ! I can post it some time but right now there is one thing that I'm wondering about... As some people know Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) has mao-a and mao-b inhibitors but I couldn't find any proof that someone used it for ayahuasca... Do you guys have any info about that ? Thanks Smile

PS. sorry if I made any spelling error Smile My english isn't perfect

Hey Dr_Nick,

keep in mind that the fact a plant shows MAO inhibition properties does not mean it will be suitable as an ayahuasca analogue.

First, you'd have to see how effective are those compounds. A quick search online returns this document reporting phenols with inhibitory activity in mugwort, but the potency of those inhibitors ranges between 1 and 45 micromols (IC50 value), while for instance harmine has an IC50 of 2,5 nanomols (see this great post by Infundibulum about inhibitors and IC50 values). In practice this means you would potentially need a thousand times the amount of mugwort inhibiting compounds to get equivalent effects to harmine, and in any case the ability of a MAOI to activate other alkaloids may depend on other properties of the substance, besides IC50 values.

Second, you would need to isolate the potential MAOIs from another compounds in the plant that may be toxic or otherwise affect negatively the experience. More so if you would need a lot of plant extract to achieve the desired inhibition, perhaps too much to make it feasible, never mind safe.

Particularly for first experiences I would stay with botanicals that are well researched and are known to work safely when used properly. Syrian rue is not difficult to find.

Welcome to the Nexus.

Thanks Vodsel !

Yeah, the problem with syrian rue is that I live in Poland. In here it's illegal, and so is MHRB ... Most of the useful plants are banned here Smile In poland a guy that sells weed can be kept in prison for 15 years but pedophiles usually stay there only 2-3 years... Fuck logic. That's why I'm looking for maoi plants that are easy to get...

Look around, it's not that hard to find Rue in Europe.

Good luck,
Mao
In my country, the legal go-to psychoactive substance is ethanol. Sometimes my friends get wasted and tell the craziest stories about how they go out at night to harvest strange grasses in the light of the full moon. They claim to meet elves, white light and jaguars. These are their stories.

A little off topic, but i tried mugwort tea the other day. I used quite a bit. Heard I would have weird dreams. Were not different from my normal weird dreams. Remember adding lye to water fast, and fearing it having violent reaction so ran. Then Louis Black was trying to make DMT and kept spilling the caustic base solution everywhere.

Maybe since I always have weird dreams and remember them, it did not effect me. Not always, but can wake myself up if I think I am dreaming, open my eyes to prove it to myself, then go right back into same dream.

I am looking at Harmine next, as an MAOI.

Sorry, did not realize this was 6 years old.
