Mimosa Hostilist + Moclobemide Experience (Pharmahuasca) Options

Hi all,

I made an account here to talk about my positive experience with “pharmahuasca” (if you allow me to use this term while I haven’t use any form of harmala alkaloids). I found no actual reference of the kind when I wanted to try and I wish to fill this gap of information.

Material:
Spice: Good quality Jurema Preta/Mimosa Tenuiflora/Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark(MHRB), shredded, 5.37gr
MAOI: Moclobemide 150mg, 2 tablets

Previous experiences with psychedelics:
Relatively beginner: oral cannabis in psychedelic setting, Psilocybin, low dose of Salvia, (first time of any sort of DMT)

Mindset:
In a great place in my life, relatively experienced meditator, a bit worried about the dose being too high in combination with Moclobemide, an extremely small friction with my friend in the morning of ingestion.

Setting:
In nature, in a cozy spot, well thought and arranged for the experience, with previous psychedelic experiences in the same place and comfortable, just a bit cold on that day. Softest instrumental progressive rock is a must for me. The visuals are made “out of” music. So it’s extremely important.

Trip killers:
Xanax (alprazolam) 0,5mg, Mirtazapine (Remeron) 15mg, Melatonin 3mg, a sachet of “trip killer” which is nothing more than some magnesium+ vitamins+maltose.
Indeed my choice of trip killer in case of emergency situations would be Xanax. Mirtazapine would theoretically be a good choice for other psychedelics, as it is a potent 5HT2A antagonist But in this case, being on high dose of MAOI it wouldn’t be a safe choice, risking serotonin syndrome. Melatonin and my funny trip killer sachet were just playing psychological role of “having all sort of trip killer by my side”, otherwise not trustable.

Preparation and chemistry:
Soaked the shredded MHRB in about 50 to 70ml distilled water and juice of half of a fresh lemon squeezed in it, overnight in the fridge (no warming). The next morning, the plant material stained
with simple kitchen mesh strainer. The shredded MHRB naturally contains some fine reddish, purplish dust that was naturally passed to the liquid result of the first stage. Then the plant material where boiled with natural lemon juice and distilled water 2 times, each time around 20 to 30 minutes and the water was reduced to something like 40ml. The third boiling phase was without lemon, just distilled water and it yielded just some pale color to the water. Each time the result of boiled extract were cooled in the fridge separately, before mixing with the rest of extracts. The idea was that the most valuable part is the first non-heated part and keep it cool the whole time. The final result was a glass of around 200ml non-homogeneous extract (needed some shake before using to not to miss the deposits on the bottom.)

Digesting and biochemistry aspects:
Last night had dinner around 20:45, a normal meal, containing meat and some yogurt. Tried not to overdo on tyramine, but wasn’t very cautious either.
The day of experience, had some fast absorption carbohydrates and a bit of nuts and tiny amount of yogurt between 8:30 and 8:45.
First 150mg Moclobemide was taken at 10:45 (3 hours before taking Mimosa). The second 150mg Moclobemide was taken 12:53 (1 hour before taking the spice).
I suspect my body has very high amount of MAO since previously 150mg Moclobemide made no difference on the effect of Psilocybin. (I speculate that high amount of MAO in my body might be due to my diet being extremely high on Tyramine and or high levels of stress hormones and adaptation of my body to handle that amount of Monoamines). That was why I choose two 150mg. The timing was mostly based on speculation and the fact that “Peak plasma levels occur 0.3 to 2 hours after oral administration. ... The elimination half-life is around 2 hours.” [wikipedia] that to me meant I should be careful not to take Moclobemide too early, neither too late. Also in the wikipedia you can find that “A single 300mg dose of Moclobemide inhibits 80% of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and 30% of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B)” so that further motivated me to take 300mg.

For taking Moclobemide I had only three relevant sources: one fellow who had taken Moclobemide with Changa

The other tried Moclobemide with capsules of unextracted powder of MHRB and for him a tiny amount of spice had very strong effect(that report was frightening me from trying a normal dose of Mimosa, but at the end I relied on my experiences of Moclobemide with Psilocybin which wasn’t so dramatic at all)

And a forum talk about sensitivity to MAOI and dose of Moclobemide

Timeline:
T -3h: first Moclobemide
T -1h: second Moclobemide
T 0h: drinking the extract of MHRB
T +30min seriously tripping! (fast come-up)
T +2h and 40-50 mins (less than 3 hours) end of the peak as I define by appearance of the first thought/sentence in mind!
T +7h end of explicit after-glow.

Nausea and coldness.
From around 40 minutes after ingestion of MHRB extract, nausea started. It wasn’t mild, but not severe as if you’re practically close to purge. I had some ginger candy that later I found that it’s actually a must! It helped both with nausea and the hunger. I put it on side of my mouth to melt slowly.
There were two factor that were annoying: 1st nausea and 2nd coldness. Actually the weather was around 18 to 19 degree Celsius but being hungry (low blood sugar) and laying down in the nature made it unbearably cold and I had to move my body constantly to keep myself warmer. It then didn’t work and I stood up in the sun. Still not completely regretting to choose nature for that purpose because first of all, I didn’t know how the material will affect my body and not being worried about purging on the floor was a plus. Also the scenery was fantastic. And I didn’t have complete feeling of security and privacy at my place of residence.

Visual:
As I mentioned earlier, I define the peak as the part that words disappear and you are left alone with images and meanings. That part lasted around 2 to 2.5 hours. I would speculate that my experience was something similar to 1 to 2 grams of dried psilocybe cubensis but don’t take this part as a valid reference because I haven’t had experience with dried psilocybe cubensis. The experience and visuals was very similar to psilocybin, maybe just the visuals were a bit less colorful and a bit more geometric and a little more dreamy (in compare to psilocybin feeling like the visuals are actually on back of your eyelids), but no real fatigue or actual sleepiness. No open eye visual, only close eye visuals. Enjoyment of music and strong connection between music and visuals as psilocybin.

Spiritual:
A lot of experience and understanding, but to explain a little:
I perceived that death don’t exist in reality. Reality is just the current moment and fear of death is created by ego, as something imported from future and existing in present (which does not). When a body starts and stops functioning as a coherent set of molecules, that doesn’t affect much the rest of biosphere, or cumulative consciousness. On the death of the body, only the ego dies, the rest go nowhere, molecules exist as they always existed and weren’t event permanent in that body(molecules always joins and leave that coherent set which we call body). The problem is only with the fear of death(future), and sorrow of detachment, rooting at self-made ego(past). A while after that, I noticed a mushroom in the environment that seemed to be similar to the edibles that I usually pick and already picked the previous day. I got closer to that mushroom. It was similar to the poisonous lookalike of the one that I eat. I couldn’t say for sure what species it was. A bit further away, there were two other mushrooms of the same kind. I look closer. They were like being exactly in between the edible and poisonous ones. Then I doubted my ability to distinguish those two genus. And I had already cooked them and going to eat them anyway. Then I kind of started to panic. Stood up and went away from those mushrooms and thought that “Ok, don’t panic, you can simple throw away those mushrooms if you’re unsure about them”. It didn’t work. I remembered that logic doesn’t work much on psychedelics. So I changed the approach: I closed my eyes, and tried to see the fear without resisting and pushing it away. It was just like a simple line/stripe extending along the other experiences, it was just there, doing nothing. At the same time, I wore a mild peaceful smile, as I believe nothing affects more on your mood that your own body. The fear disappeared. It all just happened in less than a minute. After a while, I though that “then what about your perception of death which is not real? How you got so freaked about the possibility of death of the body?”. Then I looked back to the suspicious mushroom. Assumed it as the symbol of fear of death. Walked slowly toward it, touched it, then toward the one that scared me most. Sat beside it and gently got it in my hands, as if I’m lovingly hugging it. …

After effect/after peak:
Despite psilocybin which just abruptly ends, its effect faded very gently and slowly with pronounced after effect. Physically, when the nausea was gone, it was the end of it. Around the T 3h I ate a meal of cacao biscuit and some nuts and there was absolutely no nausea. From T 3h till T 4.5h I was trying to leave my place in nature but the scenery was so beautiful that I couldn’t leave and I kept coming back and walking around the nature. On the way back, the beauty of nature and autumn tress were breath taking. There was a particular head-space after the experience that I can’t compare with psilocybin because it doesn’t has one. If I want to compare with cannabis (although very different) it was despite cannabis extremely clear, high feeling of lightness, a feeling of a positive emptiness! You feel like you are back to normal thoughts and you can function normally but you are very light and blissful. Also despite cannabis, that feeling of blissfulness wasn’t from the nature of joy of dopamine. You can feel that it’s neither dopamine nor sedation.
The mild feeling of blissfulness extended for a couple of days. The night after the experience I experienced a lucid dream for the second time in my life, without any intention or even expectation. The dreams kept being vivid and nice for some more nights. If you’re going to take oral DMT, better to intend to have lucid dreams the night after (you can find techniques on the internet)

Conclusion:
I’m not afraid of taking pharmacological MAOI. However, one should be extremely cautious in mixing MAOIs with tryptamines, starting to test with extremely low doses of tryptamines with known effect, for example with melatonin and then very slowly increase the dose of either MAOI or tryptamine of choice. Better having some disappointing experiences than some traumatic ones. Bodies vary hugely in response to these combinations.
Mimosa Hostilis (Jurema) is very important, especially because it is legal in many countries. Moclobemide is not hard to get. Simple lemon tech extraction works for Mimosa. I had no uncontrollable nausea. Next time I would try it at home. Ginger candy is fantastic. Better to have the next day free and instead of rushing out of bed, review your hopefully fantastic dreams. Next time I will increase the dose (for example by 1.5 times), it still has room to safely be increased.

Thank you for reading. If the information in this post are faulty, please correct me.
