I feel like some of you might be interested in this. I think it's not against the rules, if so I apologize.

Anyway, the procedures here are well adapted to improvised equipment. Proper equipment goes a long way. But lab glass is expensive right? Wrong!!

I'm in no way affiliated, but I recommend checking out the Ebay seller deschem. This is a Chinese manufacturer, but comes highly recommended from the good folks at the sciencemadness forums. Most things will run 10-20 dollars a piece and ship free. Get the right tools for the job, make life easier.

Just wanted to share in case anyone is just put off by not wanting to spend 1000 dollars on a distillation kit. You can get a vacuum filtering set and separation funnel for <$50.

I've always been partial to Corning Pyrex labware.

Too many broken jars to not want lab glass

Be very careful with glassware from China. I have some experience in glass blowing, and most of the Chinese glass in the art glass industry is notorious for not annealing properly. Chinese canning jars are prone to bursting as well IME, and I would assume scientific glass is no exception.

Yes. Chinese manufacturing frequently sucks. But not necessarily. Like I said, these guys are recommended on the sciencemadness forums. And those guys are doing much more demanding work than extracting some plant matter. There was at least one guy using it to distill sulfuric acid. And to make ether.

I would definitely be wary about some high temp reactions or using chemicals like sodium methoxide, but boiling some xylene isn't an arduous task

I use tempered lab glass but I still do my extractions in the sink and use gloves and eye protection. It's better to be safe than sorry..
