Can a link to such a negative thread be brought forward as an example of what is nearing unacceptable conduct and if possible if any are of my negative postings please use me as that example. But if I've yet to get to that point ,please give a link to such negativity. Some geniuses such as myself haven't seen any negative posts here ever.

After my first posts back here in 5 or 6 months, I was harassed by the user Phlux- simply for having the audacity to suggest that entheogens are a subset of drugs defined by the context of their use, and that virtually all psychoactive drugs have the capacity to be used as entheogens (in the AlcohoL thead, around the end of page 3 and beginning of page 4).

While it wasn't that bad compared to typical internet heckling (as a moderator on the shroomery, we deal with a lot more hostility and negativity), it surprised me coming from this forum. The tone of the forum certainly struck me as having become more negative since I was last active on here. And while I don't get bothered by bickering on the internet, I was surprised to see it on this forum.

Then again, you gotta take everything with a grain of salt:

I think this forum has done so well in the past because it thrives as a centre for information and as long as people are reading and finding it useful, then it's all good. Who's the average kitchen chemist to argue with tried and tested method? This effect is humbling.

What happened in that thread wasn't needed at all.

I think the hostility towards you came from several aspects:
1. Somehow there is a fine line between the use of the words "drugs" and "entheogens". Some people feel the need or even urge to defend that line. Probably because it's fundamental to their believes since several groups are trying big time to put every drug into a negative context, including the beloved "entheogens" which feels so much different to many of us compared to "drugs" like heroine an cocaine.

2. Although you probably didn't mean to, your use of Aegle's words could be seen as a somewhat personal attack, at least she DID see it as a personal attack.

3. Throughout your first post you can read your frustration and even some anger about the point you were making. This in itself is very good since you can really make your point but it also might be some sort of a catalyst to the rest.


However, none of this all should have drawn as much hostility as it did. If it weren't for the few messages later when you all apologized and got back to reality I would have closed that thread and send a few members on leave for a week...

I'd rather not put any of our memebers who might be working on their anger out there like that. However, I would be happy to give examples of negative posting though: name calling, lashing out, hard core sarcasm in a mean spirited way, making fun of others views, cussing at others, etc...

It's simple stuff really, just treat others with respect even if you disagree 100% with their point of view. Try and keep threads light hearted even in the midst of serious debate (and lets keep it at debate and not full fledged cyber screaming match).

I'm glad you missed all of the unhappy threads.

Thank you for explaining Traveler, no worries I agree to disagree. I am a peaceful person and I do not enjoy conflict. I love getting my ideas challenged but there is a difference between a healthy discussion and conflict. I hope I didn't offend anyone if I did I am sorry, I just defended my self in the way I felt I needed to

Aegle, I don't believe anyone took offense at your demeanor. You were entirely civil throughout.

And I hope you didn't take offense at my demeanor either. I was trying to challenge your idea with rational discourse. When you said 'I use entheogens, not drugs' in a post where you say that you don't use alcohol, I misinterpreted that as implying alcohol was a drug, not an entheogen. Again I'm very sorry for any distress my misunderstanding caused.

The hostility that I felt within the thread was the disrespectful way that Phlux reacted. Telling me that he "was blown away by ur childish arguing over the internet" when I was expounding on a point for clarity and understanding isn't a common reaction on this forum. When he asked whether he was wrong and if anyone here uses alcohol as an entheogen, I pointed out that the original poster in the thread has claimed just that, and cited another example of a famous person who used it likewise, to which he replied "and your their representative?" "nice one - i get it - uh, your so kewl"

That's the negativity I was referring to. Petty bickering with the sole intent of getting a rise out of someone is known as 'trolling' on most forums. And on most forums I'm very used to it. It just surprised me coming from this great place.

the reason i was full of it is because my partner for 8 years (aegle) came here - posted her first spice experience, then randomly got attacked here by some member that must have been having a hard day - im always chilled - check up all my posts, i feel i contribute etc...

i defended her and acted somewhat childish
there is nothing more pathetic than argueing over the internet.
I dont have anything else to say to all those involved other than - sorry for provoking you, i couldnt care less what you believe, and i doubt u really care what i think. i come here to continiuosly learn and share my knowledge, this site is the best spice site and has one of the nicest groups of users ever. Swim loves the nexus too.

i hold nothing against anyone, its all in the past - dwelling on it would just feed it, keep them nasties at bay.

Thank you Phlux for defending me. Entropymancer Phlux is never negative or argumentative. He was just defending me because he felt he needed to i thought i needed to be defended due to your assumptions i said something i clearly didnt. No worries all is forgotten, I understand you made a mistake Im glad we all could clear things up.
