How many have heard this clip? Given the implications, how many would feel the same? Pardon if this was discussed before. It was pretty surprising for me, but that wore off quickly. No attachments to belief systems, no heroes, no static dogmas for me. Question everything.

Note: this is an interview straight from McKennas mouth! Is the Nexus aware of this, at large? Does it change anything? Discuss!

From http://www.gnosticmedia.com/McKenna-Agent :

Quote:
[Henk] He was forced to move to avoid capture by Interpol. He wandered through Southeast Asia viewing ruins, collected butterflies in Indonesia, and worked as an English teacher in Tokyo. He then went back to Berkeley to continue studying biology, which he called “his first love”.[6]

Note he fled to avoid capture by Interpol but then after a time he casually returns to Berkeley?

First of all, why would Terence friends hail the idea of him returning to the Amazon because they were concerned about his mental state while the cause of his mental state was his prior trip to the Amazon? That’s a contradiction. Why would Terence make up a reason to go back to the Amazon? Him being wanted by the FBI should be plenty reason I think.

Attempts to get an answer from Terence’s brother, Dennis, regarding the above episode have failed. It seems they want us to believe that Terence just went from being wanted by Interpol and the FBI to just casually lecturing about psychedelics. What happened in the interim? Someone must know the answer.”

We finally have the conclusion to what happened to Terence after the FBI had caught him:

Questioner: I’m real curious about one thing. Why is it important for you to do this?

Terence McKenna: I wonder myself. You mean am I the alien ambassador whether I like it or not? [laughs]. Well, often when asked this question, I’ve said it beats honest work. I mean, my brother is a PhD in three subjects and works in hard science and yet I don’t think it’s brought him immense happiness. Not that he’s despondent. But I was always kind of a slider. You know?

And certainly when I reached La Chorerra in 1971 I had a price on my head by the FBI, I was running out of money, I was at the end of my rope. And then THEY recruited me and said, “you know, with a mouth like yours there’s a place for you in our organization”. And I’ve worked in deep background positions about which the less said the better. And then about 15 years ago they shifted me into public relations and I’ve been there to the present.

I think ideas get me high. And I like the feeling of understanding and I love diversity to the point of weirdness.

Questioner: It seems that there’s more to it than that for you. Because, you know, being tuned in to ideas and turned on by ideas is one thing, but you can keep that just to self. The sharing of it is something else. I think that’s what we’re getting at. [??

Terence: well one thing is, I’m really fascinated… I think of myself as a pretty savvy person, and not easily led into false dogma…

A lot of people are confused or turned off by Terence's apparent contradictions. A recent airing by Dennis showed that TMK's serious psychedelic use had essentially ended before the bulk of his speaking career, which has led some to see his PR years as being less than totally genuine. All I can say is that back in those days, and I was one of the lucky ones who got to sit in at one of his multi-day talks, which was so rich with ideas that I spent the whole summer processing it all- well, back then there was essentially nobody going out on a limb like that. A whole generation of us were inspired by him to try the heroic doses and really let go of ourselves. A lot of what he said was misguided or possibly even a little delusional, but his net of ideas was wide and when he cast it, parts were bound to land on gold. You just never want to take all of what anyone says as being gospel. Maybe think of TMK as being a band with a lot of great hits but plenty of turkeys too.

Perfect!

McKenna inspired me greatly to push myself further into these mysterious realms much further than I likely would have otherwise. His ideas were imaginative, and usually wildly entertaining, but he was often very upfront about the fact that they were simply ideas. So that, too, I got from him, the ability to enjoy spinning wild and fanciful ideas. The ability to generate ideas is a very useful and important one, since the quote by Guyomech is true.

I really appreciate his ability to think SO outside the box that it really facilitates a lot of thinking on your own part. And the fact that he respected that what came out of his own mouth really was as wild as it sounded, and, as Mr.Peabody said, just an idea. Whether he was wrecked half of the time or not lol, its not like he was in an alcohol induced stupor.

The fact remains simple that if world 'leaders' and influential figures had the same "go out, be happy and explore your own mind" as Terence rather than an arbeit macht frei mindset, Id say the world would be on a far better course than it currently is.
"A troop of elves smashes down your front door and rotates and balances the wheels on the after death vehicle, present you with the bill and then depart. And it's completely paradigm shattering. I mean, ya know, union with the white light you could handle. An invasion of your apartment by jeweled self dribbling basketballs from hyperspace that are speaking in demonic Greek is NOT something that you anticipated and could handle!' -T.M.

I love listening to Terence McKenna.

But I see him more as a psychedelic poet rather than a purveyor of the truth. Viewed as performance art, his talks are hugely entertaining, but viewed as a guide to reality they are often thoroughly mistaken (time wave zero?).

Well said Guyo

Its also sort of unfortunate that people focus so much on Terence that few know anything about on his brother Dennis. He's not as spell-binding of a speaker, but even Terence admitted that Dennis was the more profound thinker and many of his ideas came from him. I got permission from him to sticky one of his ayahuasca experiences here

^ this... Jan Irvin went off the deep end a while ago. Terence was obviously talking about the mushroom (or perhaps the Other)

Well said Guyo. I was one of those people as well, having spent much time with TM at Esalen back in the day. Great times.
Let us declare nature to be legitimate. All plants should be declared legal, and all animals for that matter. The notion of illegal plants and animals is obnoxious and ridiculous.

I was a friend and co-conspirator of TMK, and am now friend and co-conspirator of Dennis, whom I met to film Cognition Factor, on the Costa Del Sol in 2004.
To scotch some of the more toxic rumours about TMK, I recently published a video filmed in '96 in South Africa, which has T. talking about his 'light shroom trip' the day before.
Not only was I there on both occasions, and have upped the video to prove this, but I've also included an account of my trip with T. in a recently published gonzo autobiography;
"Journey to Everywhere", available on Amazon as an EBook, with the (free) intro by Dennis telling you how crazy 'I' am...but I digress, don't fall for the people who quote T. literally. He'd be mortified!
